His speech said "I cannot obey the commands of my Sheriff". I wonder what the Sheriff told him to do.

To be fair, you really shouldn't be calling people out on tv if you are a sheriff. I realize the era of the quite professional is coming to an end, but our police force has no business making the kinds of statements he made.

So a sheriff cant call out criminals and make the public aware of who they are? Quiet professional bull crap, we employee law enforcement officers to enforce the law. I bet the gremlins are long gone from st landry so the video did it's job.

He didn't really challenge the residents, he challenged the criminals. Are you a criminal?

I didn't feel threatened or challenged one bit by his statements.

So the backlash is from insubordination?

No, the sheriff was trying to reign him in and make him more PC from what I can tell. He was not interested in appeasing the ACLU so he resigned.

So he wasn't interested in following the commands of a senior officer who has been elected by the community and is responsible for keeping the peace? Sounds like this guy has a problem with authority. Isn't that just a little hypocritical on his part?

But then how else is he going to get those lucrative endorsement deals with Acadian Home Security and whatnot?

Maybe he wanted him to STFU and actually catch the Gremlin Gang. He turned the whole thing into a WWE wrestling match promotion.

This is my point exactly. He made it more about himself than actually catching the criminals. In the most ironic turn of events, turns out this hypocrite has his own problem with authority and instead of obeying orders, he just up and quits. What a hero!

What people don't realize is that Higgins is a complete cancer to the department. He's an egotistical maniac and has zero support from the inside because he thinks he's a big shot. Period

Gang members, even those who are wanted for a crime, are still American citizens- which means they are protected by the United States Constitution. The 4th Amendment as it relates to the Use of Force by law enforcement, requires that the minimum force necessary to affect an arrest is all that may be used. No more.

While technically just a "threat", when you are law enforcement, you don't make statements challenging gang member/US Citizens to a gunfight, claiming you'll apply "superior firepower", etc. It's bad form.

I've always thought that Capt. Higgins seemed to be a good man with good intentions, but his execution has always come off as a bunch of bravado that has no place in public service.

Disagree if you like, but understand what I am saying. I think those little gang-bangers are dickbags who need a foot up their asses. I am pro law-and-order. I think people should be pistol-whipped for acting uncivilized, etc.

But law enforcement IS the government and they have restrictions under the Constitution that cannot and should not be breached.

What does this mean? Just because someone takes a job as a cop does not mean they deserve some kind of recognition. Ergo, they should be quite professionals.

Oh? Are they really? I honestly don't know, that's why I'm asking. Logic tells me they don't give even the tiniest of fricks what mr superior fire power had to say but I could be wrong. I suppose it's possible they left the area but I doubt it.

This times 1000X the Trump mouth breathing type can't see this guy for the hypocrite he is. Its no secret a certain population of the police departments across the country are already on this massive power trip. This guy is just another example of that. Talk is cheap. You want people's respect as a law enforcer? Put the camera down and actually do your fricking job. He is so full of himself he takes time out to shoot this dumb arse video meanwhile the Gremlin Gang is still doing hood rat things with their friends.

First of all, the video was done at the request of the state police. Secondly, he was the public information officer for the ST. Landry Sheriff's Department. It was his job to do these videos.

From what I'm hearing, the ad caused all kinds of backlash, with some claiming it was now a racial issue, and other family members of the gang members complaining that their loved ones lives were in danger. The sheriff decided to cave to the pressure, and told Higgins to tone it down.
