People are bitching because they are overdrawn by this.

Depending on the day, it could be a lot of money. If my bank doubled my purchases on the 1st of the month, it would be like $6k coming out. If on the 2nd, it’d be just $20 in gas or something.

Yeah you'd need to spend half of your account balance to even get to zero, but I'm sure it's no laughing matter for those with little room for error.

This is a good time to remind people of the benefits of a credit card not linked to your checking account. If this was American Express, you'd be fine. You don't want a mix up or fraudulent charges tying up your actual money.

True, but I feel for those tellers and bankers at Capital One today. You get an earful from people who mistakenly think there is something you can do about it.

I had no problems with capital one in 10 years, but i had a shite storm from a jack in the box and amex.

I got breakfast for myself and the guy i was training. about 4 days later i check my statement(statement ended 1 day before). And i have 60 charges for the same jack in the box order. so $7.45(?) x 60.

I asked them what kind of security do you have, when you allow 60 duplicate charges. And they played stupid, i continued to yell and scream, and told them to close my account NOW, and F ur card.

They called hour later telling me they would credit my account immediately, and gave me a bunch of points.

why anyone ever uses a debit card instead of getting a credit card is just amazing.

credit card means nobody ever gets access to your money, debit card gives them free access so only a fool would have one unless you are such a deadbeat you have no credit.

Not only that, but regulations say the bank is responsible for fraudulent credit card charges, but the cardholder is responsible for fraudulent debit card charges.

Some people just don't have the self discipline for a credit card.

Took me a long time to learn that discipline myself.

Is this just debit cards or all purchases in the account?

I use chase bill pay, but it’s still the checking account funding the purchases.

I don't think this is true.

About 10 yrs ago, my debit card number was used in California someplace I had never been, to run up about $2,500 in charges. The bank had the money back in my account in less than 48 hrs.
