People are bitching because they are overdrawn by this.
Some people do not keep much more in their account above what their monthly bills are. I could see this happening easily.

About 10 yrs ago, my debit card number was used in California someplace I had never been, to run up about $2,500 in charges. The bank had the money back in my account in less than 48 hrs.
Me too. Many banks do this just to maintain their customers, as a service, but aren't required to by law. Especially when the bank catches it before any actual money is transferred, ie it has been posted but not actually paid.

Banks can waive your liability, but legally they can hold you liable for all of the charges if you fail to notify the bank within 60 days of the statement showing the fraudulent charges. The quicker you notify them, the lower your liability.

Now their customer service lines are down. They must be getting bombarded. I've got over $100 in duplicate charges. I have no doubt that they will fix this. I've been with Capital One for around ten years with zero issues.

CapOne is dumpster fire. They are retooling everthing. Shutting down mortgage operations, closing some branches, layoffs, etc. Hibernia Bank should have never sold out to them.

Yep anything from the last day that was debit is sitting in my pending status after being posted.
