Can you imagine how it was in the old days when you didn’t know a hurricane was coming

That would suck if you thought it was just another thunderstorm coming not knowing a hurricane is coming to ruin lives.

Was probably wonderful

Didnt have to worry about insurance and building codes.

After storm passes you just rebuild yourself like a great American.

Simply round up the village gnome and sacrifice him to the sun god. It’ll work itself out

Yeah, my ex-wife would really miss the excuse to take 2 or 3 spontaneous vacations every summer.

Hurricanes are bull shite. If y'all would just stay off the road, pick up the missiles in your yards, clean out your refrigerators, and not live in D.R. Horton homes built in reclaimed swamps, you'd be fine.

Low riding clouds flowing strong and consistent out of the east are abnormal around here. I’m sure they would have had a clue.

Yep, between 6,000 and 12,000 fatalities in the United States in the 1900 one that hit Galveston. More in the Caribbean.

Cuban dude tried to tell them it was coming, but smug Yankee forecasters ignored the brown man and caused people to die by the thousands.

Read "the last days of last island" I think it's set in 1853 where last island was equivilant to grand isle and a massive hurricane hit while 400 or so people where there.

Iirc, Cuba notified the weather bureau of the storm and texas ignored it

I lived for a few years on a piece of the property of the orphanage in Galveston. The story of that place is :/
