So kids that are 7-18 years old now that can't read, are a product of slavery??? Now that's a lack of education.....

Never had a slave
Parents never had a slave
Grandparents never had a slave
Great grand parents never had a slave.

Fair point. There have been many tragedies throughout history.

I guess my question is... Who is responsible? Because it seems that some people are looking to place blame on another group and feel they are owed something for wrongs committed in the past.

So, simple question... Who is responsible?

When you say Europeans you should say more specifically Jewish bankers and businessmen.

Correct. Jewish bankers and businessmen are most responsible for ending slavery.

I don't see millions of black Americans wanting to move to Iowa or Idaho.

In a sense yes.ignorance begats ignorance. In today's time there is a total lack of accountability though

The federal government was created with slavery being allowed. Slavery is admitted by all to be an unfair practice and a wrong. The federal government survives to this day. Reparations should be made to people who have been wronged. The best way would be to deed western federal lands to present day AA. Some western states are comprised of 90% federal land. It would get the land back in commerce and out of the clutches of bloated federal govt.

This country was started as colonies of Europeans that began the practice of importing slaves. Our country as it transitioned into the United States abolished slavery (something no society in the history of the world, and nearly every society had slaves) less than 100 years after its founding and continued to fight the practice of slavery worldwide. Most of which still takes place in Africa despite worldwide efforts to eradicate it.

So in the grand scheme of things, is America not a positive factor in the abolishment of the practice of slavery?

Let's just say 1,000 years from now someone is looking back at a history book.

What they would see is the horrific practice of humans owning other humans, from the beginning of written language until the middle of the 19th century when it was ended by Europeans and Americans.

My ancestors didn't own slaves, and I think it was a disgusting practice. Why do I owe anybody anything?

Can someone explain to me how a white male currently living in the United States is in anyway remotely responsible for a practice as old as humans that ended almost 200 years ago and that this justifies some sort of reparations or apology.

No apologies needed and no reparations are owed. That window in time has long been closed. I can trace my family back to early 17th century on my dads side. Fought for the South but had no slaves but even if they did, I, living in the now, owe no apologies to anyone. Reparations? LOL, frick you

Waiting for your answer

Who is responsible for slavery?

Because after thousands of years of practice it was ended within a generation of the founding of this country. With some of the biggest and most outspoken abolitionists calling themselves Americans

This topic always makes me laugh. My dad's people were in Norway and Germany when slavery existed in the US yet he recently had a guy at a gas station tell him about how he owed him something because he was white.

One thing is for sure, our founding fathers fricked this country before it ever got off the ground by bring slaves over. They should have plowed their fields themselves. Instead, 200 years later we are still paying for their mistakes. It willl never end. How on earth we are still talking about slavery is beyond me. All we hear now from blacks is slavery this, slavery that, Jim Crow this, black lives matter that. Enough. Could have totally been prevented had they plowed their own fields. It's America's original mistake.

But did they? They were continuing a practice as old as civilization, and were ultimately a key part in ending it's practice in the civilized world. 25% of the Roman population was enslaved. Why do we never hear about how horrible they were?

Furthermore, there are more slaves alive today than in any other time in history. If we really despise the practice of slavery so much why are we worried about slaves 300 years ago?

Because a certain group of people have an agenda

As a black person, I despise the mere idea of reparations. I earned my way into college, and I earn my wages now. Also, I don't feel I'm owed an apology by anyone alive today (white, black, or other) for events that happened well before any of us were born.

Finally, I have zero problems with white males (or females ). Racism is one of the stupidest fricking "issues" going in our country today, and no demographic has a monopoly on that kind of retarded behavior.

My in-laws are some of the most stand-up people I've ever met. Feel so blessed to be living in this country at this particular juncture in our history.
