Can we dispense with the idea that the hippie movement had the best music?

Yes, they did have their fair share of incredible music that will always live on and that I will always listen to. But they had a fricking shitload of nonsensical jibberish.

I just watched a show on the Monterey Pop Festival; and for every “My Generation” there was Janis Joplin fricking screaming like a banshee about god only knows what.

ETA: witnessing Otis Redding in concert would be an incredible experience.

I’m partial to the 70s era rock if we’re discussing rock and roll.

Music enjoyment is such a subjective thing it's hard to give a definite answer to questions like that. I do get the sense that their music meant more to them than following generations but that's just a personal perception and I can't swear it's true

Strongly disagree. The 60s gave us more of the greatest bands of all time than any other era. And Janis Joplin was awesome.

the music, just like the people listening to it were high on LSD and stoned shitless smoking weed like crazy

in that condition the music did sound good, to them, and a lot of the music was pretty good, it wasn't all garbage noise for stoners

Putting Merle’s “The way I am” on the jukebox at the Happy Note, while drinking a ridiculously strong Bourbon drink is a solid memory from back in the day.

I wholeheartedly agree. I do not hate the late-60s era rock. I enjoy it a lot. I just don’t believe it’s as great as the boomers who like to suck themselves off about everything they “did” in that time period like to boast it is.

Late 60s into the early 70s is the best era

The year 1967 was an important one for psychedelic rock, and was famous for its "Summer of Love" in San Francisco. It saw major releases from The Beatles (Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Magical Mystery Tour), Small Faces ("Itchycoo Park"), Eric Burdon & The Animals (Winds of Change), Big Brother and The Holding Company (Big Brother and The Holding Company), The Doors (The Doors and Strange Days), Jefferson Airplane (Surrealistic Pillow and After Bathing at Baxter's), Moby Grape (Moby Grape), Traffic (Mr. Fantasy), Pink Floyd (The Piper at the Gates of Dawn), Love (Forever Changes), The Beach Boys (Smiley Smile), Cream (Disraeli Gears), The Byrds (Younger Than Yesterday), The Rolling Stones (Between the Buttons and Their Satanic Majesties Request), The Who (The Who Sell Out), The Velvet Underground (The Velvet Underground & Nico), Procol Harum (Procol Harum), The Monkees (Headquarters and Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd.), and The Jimi Hendrix Experience (Are You Experienced? and Axis: Bold As Love).
