Concrete looks like shite compared to those hand-cut limestone blocks. It doesn't last as long either. Those blocks in the Notre Dame were cut in the 1100s and just survived the roof collapsing from an inferno. How long does concrete last before it starts falling off the rebar?

Rumor has it the roofers have started knocking on doors in the area. Maybe they can squeeze this in before hurricane season.

It’s gone.
The worst part is the stained glass. That was one of the best features of the Cathreral, and they can’t recreate it.
They’ve tried on previous reconstruction attempts.
Modern methods can’t quite get the colors/shine just right, and we don’t know how the original was made

I read some posts on Twitter earlier about how only within the last couple of years some architect (apparently well known academic maybe?) had completed some intricate 3D renderings of the entire structure. I think he died, but we have them.

However, with the technology today - and a billion dollars - mankind can make the best damn replica in history.
I sure hope they laser scanned the place. That, along with a TON of photographs, and I’d argue the average person would have a hard time telling the difference.

Never, if the concrete maintains encasement of the bars. Once water reaches the rebar it causes delamination that pushes out on the concrete. Fiber reinforcement doesn't have that issue.

I wish I knew how to do work on buildings like this.
My family immigrated here from Scotland in the 1700s and in Scotland came from a long line of stonemasons that built many buildings over the centuries in Glasgow. Including helping build a cathedral there that is just as old as Notre Dame

Nope. Slavery faded out with the fall of the Western Roman Empire and came back with colonialism...which began when Notre Dame Cathedral was already a very old building.
