Can we build a replacement to the Notre Dame with the detail by actual artist?

What are some are the most recent structures that have this level of customization from masters? I know there were a slew of palaces built by banking families in the last 300 years that have some serious customization. But nothing on this scale.

We shouldn't need to. The pictures make it seem like everything inside came away relatively unscathed.

Curious, with all of today's technology, do we still have stonemasons and architects who can still create this kind of long lasting beauty? It is no longer needed, so is the craft dead?

Are there enough great artists and sculptors that can do work on this scale? Back then, thats what people did. Nowadays, they post on Tigerdroppings.

ETA: Liz asked it more elegantly.

Restoring the old buildings in europe is big business. There will be plenty of Craftsman that would love to work on this rebuild.

I have no idea how much is there and how much needs to rebuilt...But considering how much a freakin NFL stadium costs..I would up that amount just a bit+++

I made a sheetrock joke earlier. I fear with technology, comes the loss of creating things that withstand life. Cheap, throwaway crap, you can always make more. We take for granted what our predecessors did with the tools they had. Amazing intellect in some respects.

While I agree with this, the uncomfortable truth is that it should read:

So you think all western civilization was built by slaves?

Were those slaves also engineers & architects, because their countries of origin are still littered with mud huts & thatch roofs to this day.

Was this a thing in Europe, especially in cities like Paris? Forgive me, I don't know. But, if the stonemasons were compensated to build such beauty, not much different from me doing taxes to pay my mortgage. Take that shite elsewhere.

I assumed that much, but I just looked it up. Apparently, cities built grand cathedrals with the finest craftsmen in an attempt to outshine other cities.

They have 3D concrete printing now. We could (cost notwithstanding) recreate anything

Lots of apprentices. Europe was a bit different.
