Talking about the US armed forces. Best I can tell we don’t currently have reliable defenses against small, cheap drones or drone swarms.

Seems like all it would take is a few GoPro drone videos of US soldiers being blown to pieces to quickly sway public opinion against any such military operation.

I’ll start this by saying I dont actually know anything about this. I think the time of large scale boots on the ground is over for a country like The United States. Things are too technologically advanced. If we were really trying we’d technologically destroy them, then lay waste with air and naval superiority, then bring in troops and establish a base. Repeat until its all over.

To be fair, most people believe military reporting in the news…as if open disclosure of future planning wouldn’t be the most brain dead policy imaginable

I work in the Pentagon and don't like to share top secret info, but I trust you. We're good.

Sure we can, but it'll have to be a conflict where the American population recognizes they are legitimately threatened. Not whatever the frick the Iran thing is/was

We won this without needing to, so why would we ever want to?

Define mass? 100000? 4000000?

The US military isn’t built for mass boots on the ground so it’s kind of irrelevant for the US military because we would never fight a war in Ukraine like Russia is, maybe 50 years ago we would have but not any longer. The US could realistically deploy at a maximum maybe 500k troops in total Army/Marine combined. The US is a quick strike, heavy firepower, air superiority military force. We are not a 4-5 year, grind it out military force like Russia and China have always been. Are drones effective against the US in certain situations? Absolutely but the reason they have been so heavily used in Ukraine is because both militaries have deployed massive ground forces that have dug into fortified positions with relatively static front lines, very conventional. It’s one of the main reasons the US pulled out of Vietnam. The reality is US public pressure wouldn’t tolerate that kind of war and the average US soldier isn’t trained for that.

You should go read about how we took down Maduro in VZ. US cyber command shut off the lights in Curacas during the raid. It took Delta 6 minutes to secure him. The only reason to have boots on the ground is to be able to hold onto ground.

Huh? That’s not a thing. And if it were, wouldn’t we just come harder instead of quitting?

None of your post makes any sense.

Like Iraq and Afghanistan?

Boots on the ground are still required to occupy territory.

I said “really trying”. I wasn’t talking protecting oil or poppy fields. I was talking about taking a country
