why would I pay such a high commission for someone to go sell it?
Friend does medical device sales. Ton of money but works all the time, calls to come in to surgeries at 3:00 am, assists doctors throughout multi hour procedures.

Business relationships that are formed by sales people will never go away. It’s about the service and trust with your guy knowing he will get it done and deliver for you.

Eh. Depends on the industry.

I sell to grocery/liquor and I could easily see my position being drastically reduced in the next 10-20 years.

Since I’ve been posting here you’re pretty much the only person I recognize posting all the time. In every thread. You start early in the morning, go all day and into the night. Every single day. You aren’t doing shite for your employer. Or your
Spouse if you have one. Quit kidding yourself.

You’re right. I live in a trailer and don’t do anything. You caught me.

You pay to have reps target certain products. Sure, you can look up details from your desk, but people in industries that buy from these companies usually don’t have the time and don’t know what they should buy.

If someone is an order taker, he’s a shitty salesman, even in my line where shelf orders are a huge part of it.

Most sales rely on finding new clients, something a manager at a desk doesn’t have time to do. Or explaining different products to a client, something a buyer doesn’t have time to learn or explain.

It heavily depends on the type of sales, but you seem very misguided.

I'm not saying they don't add value, because I think they do. I just don't think a guy selling a medical decide that I can find online myself adds $250k of value.

To someone who doesn’t have the time or energy to search for it, there may be value.

It really all depends on the industry.

When you have competition, you need good salesmen to be able to sell your product.

Let's say a company that is in commercial and industrial construction. They need supplies that you can't just go buy at Lowes. For mechanical equipment, they will have to work with a company that specializes in venting, A/C units, etc..

If there are four different companies that provide what they need, then the one with the better salesman.. The salesman that can build the best relationship and that the construction company can count anytime they need something..

shite like that doesn't sell itself.

If one is comfortable and familiar with how to implant a Stryker device (like a TKR), and has the sales rep in there during the surgery if needed, would you want to be the patient getting another company’s device which the surgeon is not quite as experienced with?

Spoken like a true millennial. Not everything can be looked up on google and ordered with effectiveness. The sales process should be about more than taking an order. It is also about need based problem solving and trust. This is something that the younger generation doesn’t understand. They focus on the wrong things and over estimate their ability to understand that working with someone is a while like better than working against them. Salespeople who are genuine at not a dime a dozen and when you find that person that you click with it becomes a relationship not someone that takes orders.

Why must you post when you have no earthly idea what you are talking about? It's ok to sit out on a couple of threads.

Okay

Liquor isn’t a position most places hire out of college so unless you mean wine or beer, you’re likely FOS.

Liquor stores open at 10 so for most, the job is 10-5 max.

Again, I think they bring value to the chain. I'm not saying eliminate them or pay them scraps. My point is they are paid the same as they were 3p years ago (adjusted of course), but 30 years ago I think they brought way more to the transaction cycle than now.
