My guess is you have so many people that used to eat out 75% of the time now buying groceries and eating at home. The stores are not used to that demand.

In my area it has loosened up a lot. At first, there were no products on the shelves...now you might not get the brand you wanted, but you can get most products

I haven't been able to find butter, tp or paper towels for weeks. It's dumb.

Stores are basically back to normal in St. Tammany. I went to Sam's club on Monday and the only thing they were really low on was eggs. Totally stocked on tp, paper towels, meat, water, etc.

I saw TP at 2 Thursday Afternoon because they finally got around to restocking the stuff they confiscated when the early birds tried to take more than 1 eight pack.

The little AG store by our house had some tp and paper towels yesterday. Plenty of butter but no bread or cleaning supplies

I'm just confused as to why stores are closing early.

Because from my viewpoint it's completely wrong. Assuming people are only going out for essentials, then the same amount of people will have to go to the store regardless.

Decreasing store hours/closing early only results a higher rate of people being in the store at any given moment throughout the day. Thereby increasing the amount of people a certain person will have to come in contact with while at the store, which is exactly the opposite of what has been asked of us.

Those on schedule for prompt shipment? Bought a kitchen knife that won’t be here for 3 weeks.

I'm not panic shopping, but I am buying more food every time I go to the store because I'm trying not to go out more than once a week. Before the stay-at-home order, I'd stop by the store on my way home from work a couple of times a week to get a gallon of milk, a loaf of bread or whatever we needed on that day. Now I'm stocking up a bit more.

Also, feeding a family of 5 every day, 3 meals a day means we go through a lot more food than we used to when we ate out more often or ate at school.

As for lines, some stores like Trader Joe's and Walmart (maybe Costco also) are now only allowing X number of people in their stores at a time. So yeah, there are sometimes lines to get in (depending on what time of day you go).

I haven't really had trouble finding things or found too many empty shelves except for Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer, so I guess that depends on the store or area of the country you're in.

I bought a 200 pack of Slim Jims that was here in 2 days. Amazon is a capricious god.

Yeah shipping time was normal. Kitchen knife is probably less priority than baby products. Still waiting for a fry daddy I ordered beginning of last week.

Baby wipes are available on Amazon for delivery this weekend.

And some "non-essential" items with extra-long Amazon shipping dates have actually arrived to me weeks ahead of when they said they would.

Don't sit there and pretend you've never impulse bought $50 of heavily processed meat products before.

When I buy things, I commit. I don't frick around.

I agree with you there; I'd much rather shop at 9 pm or 7 in the morning when nobody else is in the store.

From what I heard, the stores are closing early to re-stock and to sanitize the store. Some places may also be short of staff. I guess they can't exactly put a flat of toilet paper out when the store is open or the Black Friday freaks will descend on it like zombies on live food.
