If the offers were really for academics, it would be one thing. But these are solely for Sports.
Missouri doesn't split the sports, they force a multiplier on private/catholic schools.
shite, KC Rockhurst recruits kids from kansas and Missouri.
Where as, St.Louis has a shite load of catholic/jesuit high schools, and talented is spread around.

"Academic" Scholarship was a thing back when I was in HS from 05-09.

What I have also found is that this generation's athletes see getting a scholarship to a private high school as more "prestigious" than attending the "A+" rated public school that also has a great team.

Yes. I was let into a school that I was not smart enough to get in to with a reduced tuition because I was good at golf.

Technically you are limited to the amount of financial assistance you are allowed to give to athletes. I think it like 2.
Private schools are also suppose to be ready to prove that their athletes pay full tuition.
With all that being said, I've never seen it policed.

St Martin's offers Financial Aid for students. In fact 89% of kids are on some sort of financial aid @ St Martins. Who can afford $21k a year? They are sitting on an endowment. Nobody is on an athletics scholarship @ St Martins...That's illegal! They have to report what students pay to the LHSAA @ the varsity level. Everyone pays something @ St Martins based on what the parents income and expenses are.

All the football players were on what they call "work study" they would serve lunch in the cafeteria and get a free ride throughout high school.

Country Day plays up in class to AAA, and they've been pretty good the last few years.

How do you know this?

they do that even in Alexandria. However, i think they also give schollies to one or two non-athletic poors so that they can claim that it is available to everyone.

Kid will probably be doing work study type of program
DJ Augustine used to serve me icees in high school to pay for his tuition

It's not a private school. It's a parochial school and their community outreach rules vary based on their religious mission.
One day people from
Louisiana will realize St. Whatever is not a private school. Just because it's not public doesn't mean it's private.

It's common now for schools in Louisville like nationally ranked powerhouse, and all-male Catholic high school - Trinity to do this. In the past, Trinity was 99% Caucasian. They have found their way into non-parochial leagues to attract urban youth to their school, many of which would a) not be able to afford the $13,000 year tuition, or b) pass the entrance examination/placement test. These are the kids that will get to attend from the pool of funds set aside from rich local alumni that are very interested in keeping their team "winning" in all sports.
Trinity is bad about it - really bad. As bad anywhere I've seen in the country, actually. Granted, Trinity and St. X have been good since forever and have dominated the largest class for several generations, but while St. X, with an NFL Hall of Famer for a coach, is still really good - probably a top 50-ish national program, - just cannot touch Trinity, and Trinity can put out teams like that team they had a few years back that, IIRC, had 8 BCS level recruits (including two 5 stars), won the national title, and absolutely smashed all the great programs in a single season in Ohio, Indiana, and Tennessee (beating schools like Archbishop Moeller by 35 and the two big Nashville programs, MBA and Brentwood, by like six touchdowns each). I think they actually started reining it back a bit after that because Kentucky schools other than X refused to play them unless they were in their district because of what they were doing.
Louisville and New Orleans are pretty similar in that sense, from what I've seen. Both have a lot of Catholic schools, including single sex schools, for cities their size that have long athletic traditions and influential local alumni that make sure certain things happen for them. The difference between the two is that Louisiana high school football is awesome outside of the big NO Catholic schools, whereas Kentucky high school football is terrible outside of Trinity, X, Male, Manual, and Scott County. I'm not sure New Orleans has magnet schools like Male and Manual that "recruit" just as much as the big Catholic schools do. Trinity, X, and Male can and do go toe to toe with anyone across the country, but they probably ought to be doing something differently. I wouldn't be surprised if St. X and Trinity join the GCL South - probably one of the three or four best high school football conferences in America - in the near future. There's just nowhere for them to go in Kentucky with the way things are currently structured.
