In my case I can track production from home if needed but to be honest I’ve got to many other things to do then to just spend time doing this. Only time I do it is when a manger comes to me and asks because the employee is not being productive.
Most of this falls on the mangers job anyway. They should know if their employees are doing what they are supposed to be doing without having to get IT involved until they are looking for evidence for terminating that employee.

Great to hear. I hadn’t received any negative feedback from my manager

We all have mouse jiggler (software) on my team, we run a lot of code locally and our machines are set to lock after being inactive for 10 mins. If I walk away with code running, I cannot lock my computer and it needs to stay that way.

It's useful and not useful for WFH. Boss sees me onlines at 7 PM, hey I just called because you were showing active.

You should always assume if you are using a company provided computer or company provided internet that they can see everything you are doing. Whether or not they care to look is a whole other matter and as other posters have mentioned, most companies aren't going to look at any of the data unless there is already an issue.

What about personal laptop, home network, don’t use anything other than Outlook and Pidgin(IM). Keep Teams logged out/turned off?

For a personal laptop and home network, they can monitor only what software you share with them. For example, if your work uses Outlook Exchange and you are accessing that with your Outlook, they can see your activity in sending/receiving/reading emails within that server environment, but they aren't going to be able to see that you're watching Honey Boo Boo reruns just because Outlook is open. Same thing with Teams, Pidgin, etc.

If you VPN in, they can see what sites you're going to while on the VPN, how long you are on them, etc. because you're using the work network to do so. In this sort of instance they aren't monitoring FROM your computer, they're simply monitoring the traffic on their network (think of it as the difference as the police tracking a car through the lojack they snuck onto it versus tracking a car through only highway cameras).

Would you be open to a pay cut that reflects the actual amount of time you work?

Not the worst I've seen.

The thing that gets people in trouble the most is using company resources for your own gain. Nobody is getting fired if you happen to browse to pornhub while on a business trip at 9PM in your hotel room using your company laptop.

Just don't use it for your own business or someone else's. I knew of one person who was let go for spending all day selling stuff on eBay. Another who had a side gig but was doing the side gig on company time with their company laptop.

They can see how long you've been on and exactly what you've been doing while you were on. (I work in IT and can pull reports like this very easily)

That being said: if you work for a company that is going to micromanage you like that, you probably need to find a new job cause that would be miserable

I’ve found that if I leave a YouTube video(work appropriate) on it says I’m active in both and keeps my laptop on.

Upvoted because I'm definitely going to be using this one next week

Do they have the ability? Most likely yes. Does a person actually look/monitor that information? Highly unlikely unless they have a reason to. There are always exceptions to this but by and large, there isnt a sleuth team timing you to the minute for production efficiency. Unless you work for a shitty company or are a shitty employee, you should be good.
