So Mary Olive Pearson and Mayor Doom are suing Norman Browning and Chris Rials personally, right? If that's the strategy, can I sue BR personally for holding up our incorporation? Or would that just take more time?

You can do whatever you want if you don't care about the consequences

Every OT attorney says, "Yes, but you really need to waste your money with ME!"

What exactly would be your damages?

You were deprived of the peace of mind knowing that the right kind of people are getting your tax dollars?

Mary Olive Pearson lives in St. George, btw.

Damages would likely be “my tax dollars get siphoned off from what is legally St George into the parish general fund to balance BR’s city books.”

Lotta fricking money considering the general fund is used to pay BRPD and BRFD, neither of which cover anyone but the city of BR. All other munis in EBRP pay their own fire and police.

How exactly did you incur damages from that?

Currently the parish pays for patrols in the whole parish. In order for what you say to be taken seriously, you would have to support the following..

1. BRPD gets funded entirely by taxes collected within the city limits of BR.
2. St. George pays an additional tax to fully pay for SGPD to patrol the newly formed city.
3. EBRSO no longer has to patrol SG.
4. SG continues to pay EBRSO taxes

Not sure how that is any better, but go ahead and sue over your taxes not going up enough.

She'll be tarred and feathered, and her house forfeited to cover legal costs. Might even get her camp in Fourchon too.

One of the reasons for SG

Already proposed in the SG budget plan

Sheriff has already agreed to patrol SG

We already do

You can sue anyone for anything provided you pay your attorney to do that. You don't have to have merit or standing to file suit.

There are rules and precedent, however, that may prevent you from recovering attorney's fees even if you have a successful suit.

Unfortunately, this game is rigged so that the only guaranteed winners are attorneys on both sides.

Consider this before moving forward unless you have money to burn to make a point.

What a hypocrite. EBRSO does NOT patrol the city of Baton Rouge and yet the residents of Baton Rouge pays most of the same EBRSO taxes as people in SG do.

The fair thing to do would be to not have BR subsidize EBRSO patrols of SG. SGPD should take on that responsibility just like BRPD does in BR.

Obviously not fully accounted for if you still need the EBRSO to be the primary patrol and response.

No additional tax will be collected with the rather large surplus in the budget projections

Wrong, wrong and wrong again.

Talk about hypocritical. SG has been funding both the BRPD and the BRFD for years through the general fund and has not received the services it funds from these departments.

huh? EBRSO does not respond to calls in BR and they don't handle day to day police officer stuff in BR.

Yet, the people in BR pay EBRSO taxes. Yes, its is for other parish-wide things too but they don't let the folks in BR opt out of subsidizing EBRSO patrols.

That's right, people in the city limits of BR pay the same "additional special law enforcement' property taxes to the EBRSO as you do.

BR has been funding the EBRSO patrols in the St. George area for years and does not get the same services in return.

I'm not sure how you're unable to see the obvious next move by BR. They will demand that EBRSO either stop patrolling SG or they start patrolling BR just as much as they do SG.

SG is going to need a much bigger police force than what is budgeted. This pisses me off because you dummies are going to drag Central down with you. EBRSO does a great job in my area but you're all going to ruin it.
