My son bought a laptop for college from Walmart. Got home and it was a used laptop someone boxed up and returned. I bought it back with the receipt and they would not take because the serial number didn’t match the box.
It was a cheap POS anyway. I gave him the extra money to buy a MacBook.
Check that shite before you buy it.

Expand on this for me
Walmart takes back items without a receipt and gives store credit for items under $50 if it’s something they stock and sell.
It’s actually what people do with a lot of stolen goods. Walmart now scans your ID for non-receipt returns and there is a limit to how often you can return items without a receipt.
It’s trashy as frick to do, but it happens a good bit.
Edit: You have to lie to them and tell them you bought it there. And the people who do this are exactly the ones you expect. They will also hold up the line and cause a scene if they don’t get their way.

When I travelled a lot and was staying in corporate housing for long stretches I’d go buy a TV from a Walmart, use it for just under three months, and return it to whatever Walmart was most convenient. Half the time they wouldn’t even open the box to check and see if everything was in there. They don’t give a shite.

Sheeeeit, you don’t even need a receipt if you bitch enough and ask for a manager.

Do you only consume content and not produce anything?

One of my first bosses worked at the Walmart returns counter and he said it was store policy that if someone had the receipt and the original packaging you had to honor the return.
I once bought a new vaccum cleaner at Walmart with dirt already in it.

A lot of people still buy computers, I didn’t realize anybody bought them from Walmart though. Unless it is some kind of kids toy that just beeps and plays music when you press a button.

This can’t be said enough. I bought a 100 dollar pair of neoprene chest waders for duck hunting there and when I got home and opened the box it was a cheap pair of hip waders someone had swapped out in the store.
They made good on them but always check out what you buy before you leave the store. There are a bunch of thieves out there.

I know back in the 90s my friend would buy a new VCR, then put his old VCR in the box and return it for a refund. They never opened the box to check, and didn't require an ID. I remember one time he signed "Beautiful Bobby Eaton" (a wrestler) just to show me how easy it was
