They don't get shot on sight. There was a tour company that went right through the signs awhile back because the driver wasn't paying attention.
Basically they run you down and turn you over to the local government to get prosecuted as hard as they possibly can for federal trespassing.
They went after the tourists in the tour van even though they were foreigners and had no control of the car. Fortunately, they had dash video of the whole thing and got a Vegas news channel to push the government to drop the charges on the tourists, the driver still got misdemeanor trespassing and basically has to stay away from the area now.

A few years ago I was looking for a place not too far from the city to camp and I located a lake that was near Area 51 so I drove out to check it out and see if it was a good spot. I remembered the lake was near Area 51 but didn't know how to get there so I just google mapped Area 51 and scrolled over to find it.
Got near there and I came to a guard shack. I was going to ask them where this lake was but they came at me guns drawn and asked me what I was doing. I explained and they ordered me out of my car and started searching through it. Grabbed my cell phone and pulled up my search history and one guy called out to the other"yeah he's been searching Area 51". So they held me at gunpoint for another 10 minutes or so until I finally convinced them I was just trying to find a campsite.

A lot of people would probably be disappointed if they found out that Area 51 is just an Air Force testing site and not a place where they do alien anal probing or ressurecting Elvis.

If they have anything alien they probably moved it by now. The testing and technology is still there. My neighbor flew up. There on Janet every day. He was some type of foreign scientist.

The majority of the people working at Groom Lake are private contractors, not military or government employees. The Janet flight crews, security guards, scientist, engineers, and almost everyone else are employees of AECOM, formally URS Corp, formally E,G&G corp.

I have noz clue who actually paid him. Just know that he was a scientist and flew up there. Shuttle picked him up at the Smith's on Rancho and off to McCarren.

I'm guessing no foreigners are allowed in Area 51. NOFORN, no way.
