No.

ETA: after reading through the thread, I'd pay it. Be just my luck to end up in OPP on a Sunday night.

How did they justify that?

weasels looking to profit off others mistakes

it might actually be in the contract you had with them

The rental company is just going to charge your card. It sucks but that is how they handle it.

Yep, read your contract.

And if you get caught on a toll road, they card the toll x3 to your card.

Why not just close the credit card account that was used?

I have no problem paying the admin fee that is apparently part of the contract, but I don't think I'll be paying the actual citation.

Had this exact situation happen a few months ago while driving a rental from enterprise. Ticket was from new Orleans and took months to make it's way to me since the vehicle was registered to enterprise and had Texas plates. I guess they sent it to enterprise and enterprise gave them my info. I refused to pay it like I do with all of them, sent a letter to the company that sent me the ticket and haven't heard anything back, that was 2-3 months ago. I haven't checked my credit report lately to see if it's there, but I doubt it is on there since I filled out a credit app to open an acct somewhere and had no issue..

Your attorney is dumb then. Orleans camera tickets are sent by a private company and the worst that can happen is it'll go to collections. It is not a criminal matter, there is no judge involved.

Some camera/speed tickets are administered by the police. Like in Gretna. So these might end up in an actual traffic court. And failure to appear in court or pay might result in a bench warrant. Even those are BS though Bc there's no proof of service of the notice.

So you're saying parking tickets are "illegal," too? You don't sign for them.

What is it with these guys and these tickets? As some have noted, no you're not going to go to jail or get points on your license whether you pay or not. But they can send them to collections agencies and they can hit your credit report. I don't know the process for having something adverse taken off your credit report, but I'm not sure if it's free and am sure it's probably something of a pain in the arse.

If it were some $500 ticket I'd probably consider the risk/hassle of dealing with a collection agency. If this is some $90 deal I'd say just pay it.

A parking ticket can result in a fine or boot. No jail. It's not a criminal matter.

It's not that complicated.

Sometimes you don't know you got the ticket. It gets mailed to the owner (rental company) so they know before you do.

If you absolutely knew, and you tried this. You would still owe under the contract and be exposed to a legal claim or have a collection agency sicced on you.

Who said it was a criminal matter? I imagine I have more experience with speeding tickets than most (including one that was, in fact, charged as misdemeanor reckless driving). The civil offenses that can still bring consequences.

But don't pay. I'm just waiting for the first sucker to come back in here with a sob story about getting a shitty rate on a car loan because he didn't realize there was a hit on his credit report.

I had a bench warrant in Ascension for an unpaid inspection sticker ticket. I'd forgotten about it and went to the courthouse to pay it like 3 weeks late. That's when I was informed of the bench warrant.

I'm assuming I could've been arrested had I been pulled over, even though it was a non-moving violation?

I got two this month, total of $320. I'm not paying. Freaking 45 in a 35 and not stopping all the way before a right on red.

I haven't been pulled over by a cop since 2010. If I get pulled over then I treat it seriously.
These NOLA tickets I'll pay the day I see a boot on my car that I can't take off.

The new boots are "cute" they are simple to take off yourself, the old ones required lock cutters or a grinder.

Part of your rental agreement included you covering this. They'll just hit your card if you don't.

And you better make sure when you pay them you keep a copy of the check number or money order. Just in case you get surprised when you know you paid it, only to find it on your credit report a couple of years later. Actually happened. All of the tickets in NO and Westbank are a scam. I literally watched NOPD officer write tickets and put them on Multiple cars in French Quarter for illegal parking-----not on every car parked there, just a few here and there (La tags maybe?). Watched him put one on my car and say I was on the curb---I was 8-12" from the curb. Just an excuse to generate income. I was PO'ed! Total BS.
