Love my mustang for an extra car. 2011 GT500. Kid booster seat fits in the back no problem.

That one will run you about 3 times what he wants to pay, but damn.

Well it won’t be cheap across all the trim levels.

It depends on the trim. I preferred the Camaro in looks and the ability to handle.

Yeah. But it’s worth it. What makes me sick is back in the 80’s our grandmother bought my older brother a 69 Fastback for his 16th birthday. Car was in mint condition. Had a 351 Windsor and would flatout fly. It was beautiful. The guy she bought it from was the owner of a local bank and he’d had it since it was new. He’d babied that car.

It lasted my brother right at a year. The day he sold it they had to come with a tow truck to haul it off. The trans was shot, engine knocking. We’d ragged that car out drag racing like stupid teenagers. Looking back I don’t even want to think about what that car would be worth today if it was still in the same condition it was the day she bought it for him. What a waste. Lesson learned though. Don’t buy a dumb teenager a muscle car or really any nice car because they won’t take care of it.

Camaro easily. Higher trim levels look better than any mustang. And for years, camaro out-performs mustangs. Mustangs are bland

That's got to be the strangest question that you could have asked.

My dad was a mechanic at a Ford dealership from 1962 to 1970, and then opened his own shop. One of his brother's friends had a red and black 69 428 Cobra Jet, absolutely beautiful car. They were idiot kids, so dad would pull the reins on the tune for his car. It was still fast as hell. I sat in the back seat of that car at 160 mph once.

He eventually took it to another shop, and they tuned it right. Kid wrapped it around a tree and killed himself in it 3 weeks later.

Mustang looks sexier IMO and it drives really well. Never drove a Camaro, but I would still probably pick the Mustang.

Camaro. Mustangs are trash.

This is what happens to people driving Mustangs

Well that's not generally how one ends up with an awesome car.

The Camaro also felt more powerful, though mine was a manual and the Mustangs were automatics.

I don’t understand buying a sports/performance car with an automatic transmission. I had a camaro from 2010-2014 manual and loved every second of it. I get far fewer speeding tickets now tho with an SUV

So it's the car's fault when it runs better that the dumbass behind the wheel can drive?

You laugh but he is right. Mustangs are not on the Camaro's level.

If it's TL;DR this is what matters:

The winner of this round? The Chevrolet Camaro 1LE. In my mind, it's not close. Chevy has done the near impossible, transcended the genre, and turned a once provincial pony car into an honest to goodness world-class sports car. This $46,000 miracle punches so far above its weight that I'm in danger of saying weird things that could easily be taken out of context. Such as, if I were an engineer at BMW or even Porsche, I'd be clearing off my drawing boards.

Where does that leave the Mustang? Well, if you don't care about measurable performance and are instead into the "cowboy science" side of things, you have your winner. However (and here's the part I hate writing), in the ways that actually matter to car guys, the 2018 Mustang got its butt handed to it. For less money, Chevy stone-cold out-engineered Ford. And this is what that galls me. Not only should Ford have done a better job, but I also know they can do a better job. The Shelby GT350R—a car that's every inch as awesome and breathtaking as a Porsche GT3—proves Ford has the knowledge to build a better car. Now it remains to be seen how much the forthcoming Performance Pack 2 closes the handling gap with that GT350 R and this Camaro SS 1LE.

Not that it's really relevant, but the Z28 had a better laptime than a 911 TurboS and a Nissan GTR a few years back.
