Anyone know how these folks are set up? I read there are 2 groups that call themselves this? Are they actually an organization or just anyone who wants to bring their boat or truck with supplies show up at Home Depot, etc. kind of group? I think one guy has a facebook page that he communicates with.
Would be great if they could all go under one non profit group for coordination, you could sign up with your info and boat capacity. They could accept donations for food, gas and lodging only. Keep it honest and out of Government hands, etc.
I just think it is an awesome thing that was started in Louisiana and admire all those that have answered the call and continue to do so. Hope they all realize what Heros they really are.

im working with someone that is setting up an uber like app for CN. Basically working off GPS. For people in need of rescue they can pin their position and for boats they can see these pins in real time and when both verify rescue the pin deletes.
You can also see on the map where boats are like you can in uber with cars.
for those without GPS there is also a text and walkie talkie type functions.

That's a bad arse app.

Good idea there. Hopefully y'all can execute it. Many people have smartphones now and as much as I hate the damn things, they're a very powerful tool in a disaster IF communtications stay up.
AT&T cut off in ascension parish last year for the flood and it made things a pain in the arse for a few days.

I know of 2 bonafide NELA rednecks down in Houston with their airboats helping the CN rescue people. They don't discriminate.

They should get Lt. General (ret.) Russel Honore to head it up.

sounds like you're trying to give those racists an app to hunt down minorities

I just assumed they were a bunch of good guys with boats helping out. After listening to them on zello the past few days, that is not the case. They're pretty organized and utilize technology really well.
Aside from the boaters, they have volunteers from all over acting as dispatchers, medical professionals for advice during rescues, contact info of local emergency officials/agencies, etc.
It's really impressive. Definitely worth donating to if they are setup to accept it.

frick that. I participated last year (couldn't this year due to back surgery last week) and I wouldn't have joined them if it was under any type of government control. As soon as they do that, the feds will bury them under red tape until they can't function.
The beauty of the whole thing is that its everyday people who take their own resources to save the lives of others without asking for any reimbursement or recognition.

Agreed. I fully expect a bunch of fake GoFundMe accounts (or other fraud sites) to sprout up trying to take advantage of the goodwill.

I watched an interview with a CN rep a day or so ago. They were at a Costco , I believe, accepting donations of things like water, diapers etc... He specifically said no money. They were loading the donations into trailers to take to TX and they were having other scheduled loadings periodically at that location so folks could bring things. They were in need of bottled water as Costco was sold out.

I said keep it out of Government hands so we agree on that.
