Seems like the co-owner can't make up her mind if she wants to run a business or a nonprofit charity.

Sure, but if you're running a business, the goal is to profit, not to signal your virtue, or teach your customer base a lesson.
For instance, if I walked into a restaurant and the first words out my server's mouth were "Prejudice is prejudice is wrong", I'd probably leave and go to a place where the server told me about the specials.

I wonder how many women this place hired when they were moving their equipment in, setting up plumbing, electrical, ventilation, I wonder how many women farmers raised the crops they sold, I wonder how many women were working in the water and sanitation department to keep their water flowing,...could the answer be none?
