I grew up there.
I love the place, and a lot of the people there are great, but the unfortunate fact is the state government is liberal to the point of being nuts. The taxes are ridiculous, both on businesses and individuals.
One of the many reasons I don't live there.

Especially considering nearly all gyms have people that are not in shape, trying to get in shape.

You do realize that because of the constitution, there will always be divide, right? There will be those that want to be inclusive of EVERYONE and respect EVERYONE's constitutionally protected rights and there will be those that want to infringe upon other's rights.
You cannot compromise with right infringement. This is a republic and they are protected. So the only way the "divide" goes away is everyone unites on the right and respects and tolerates everyone, even those they disagree with.

Politics is supposed to be tool that serves us. We should use it to improve our lives. We lost control and drove into the ditch when people started serving politics and giving it life of its own.
The 2 party arrangement is retarding our development. Few problems have only 2 solutions. A democracy's votes should match the true nature of reality, not a dumbed-down, cartoon version our system implies. Life is hard, it's harder when you gouge out your own eyes.
Easy Recipe for Ruining a Society:
1. Reduce Political discourse to 2 mutually exclusive choices for EVERYTHING.
2. Ensure "IF NOT YOU'RE WITH ME YOU'RE AGAINST ME!!!" is a rule everyone follows.
We've got both of these working against us right now on so many levels.
