You serious, Clark? Male calves are castrated and then sent out to the pasture to fatten up as steers. Females (heifers) are just sent out to the pasture with them to fatten up. One or maybe two prime bulls are kept for breedstock. The cows serve as broodstock until they no longer produce and, they too, find the butcher's knife. The bulls aren't really useful for much when they reach the end of their lives, but they've had it good. All they did their entire lives was eating and fricking.

I mean, technically you are right, when they get big enough, they are eventually cut up for sale.

Because the chickens we eat are fast growing chickens. The egg layers are slow growing and the meat is different.
