Buying tires online or in store? What is easier and more convenient and cheaper?

Online seems a little easier to me but I found some tires a little cheaper in the store. Just wondering about others opinions on the subject.

I can't speak to the price, but when I bought my tires from the mechanic shop where I get my oil changed, they give me a free tire rotation every 10k miles because i bought them there.

I bought mine online. They shipped them to a local shop that installed them for $90.

Install costs at a store can be outrageous if you don't buy their tires. I found buying from Costcos website and installing at the store to be the best deal (or buy at the store if you want an easily available tire)

Bought mine through Walmart online - free shipping
Goodyear 275/60/R20 $109. per tire. Installation, balance & free tire rotation $12.00 per tire.

Went ahead and bought my tires at Walmart.com found some Goodyear tires for 104 per tire. It ended up being 465 shipped to my house.

I asked this to the guy I get my oil changed with. He said it's $80 for him to mount and balance all 4 tires if you get them online, or free if you buy them from him. Basically it's all the same price.

Online was a good deal 10 years ago but now you can get just as good of a deal in store

If you have a Discount Tire store in your area, go there. They will match any online store and even offer free tire repairs and rotation, even if you didn't purchase your tires from them.

It is not just what tire is the cheapest.
It is what tire is the best tire for your specific vehicle.
Not all tires are crested equal - even from the same manufacturer.
Get online and do your research. There are tons of articles that compare tires performance, mileage rating, speed rating, weather performance.
Decide on the specific tires you want, THEN find the best price.
I find that I end up buying online help the time and the other half local (usually in wholesale warehouses or Wall Mart).
But the right (specific model) set of tires is the first step.
It is what tire is the best tire for your specific vehicle.

Find best online price, take said price to local tire shop, ask them to beat or match the price, they usually will and you avoid the hassle of tire logistics.

McDonald Tire on Florida at Sharp is so much better than online. Plus free rotation every 6k Miles and free flats fixed if a plug will do it.

Even if you have a vehicle that requires specialty tires, they deliver competitive prices and are capable of skillful mounting. In other words, they won't f'up your high dollar rims putting on the new shoes.
