Kate Spade is the way to go if you're looking for designer bags that are less than $600.
My SO got me a black leather Coach last Christmas that is beautiful, but most of their products are logo'd to all hell.

Coach, Michael Kors, etc are considered trashy. They're faux upscale brands marketed to lower & middle class women who don't know any better. They think that just b/c it costs $500, it makes it classy. Go Chanel, Hermes, Givenchy etc.
The more affordable designers that aren't considered trashy are Kate Spade, Tory Burch, Burberry etc.
Whatever you do don't buy anything with a giant logo on the bag.

Coach/Michael Kors/Dooney = white rimmed oakleys.
I personally love Marc Jacobs, Brahmin, and Tory Burch. TB has great lasting wallets for a fair price. I carry a Brahmin regularly and I love it.
