Good thing you didn't get her the X6. Prolonged exposure to them can lead to blindness.

I think they're both almost equally ugly.

Agreed, she made the best choice between those two. The 6 gran coupe and the E would have been better options, but when you give a woman a choice you have to roll with their decision. I just bought my wife her sedan and never even asked.

My mom always had 4 Runners. The suspension on those things were always shitty, especially if you were in the back. The newer models may be better, but the older ones were terrible.

The new ones have a soft ride....much better than Pre-2010 4runners. If anything, it's a bit wallowy without the kDSS package.

No true competition? Thats a bit of stretch, the GC is pretty capable off road and the interior doesn't look like shite.

But it's so mechanically inferior that it isn't even close if you're goal is anything truck-like. There is zero way to argue against that part of the decision. Jeep makes a pretty car that fills the off-road/ truck portion but it's historically one of the least reliable vehicles on the market. Therefore, he's right, 4Runner has no real competition in the market in the truest sense of the genre.

Can you be more specific than "mechanically" inferior?

I don't see how you can say this when you just described how the Jeep is direct competition. You might say the 4Runner is the better option, and that might be true. But saying it has no direct competition is straight up false, and I can base that off of only what you just posted.
