Unless you are hauling long distance with a significant load you will be fine. What size tractor you hauling?

Something like this '99 F350 for a work truck. I know it's a 1 ton, but figured why not

First off, if you’re hauling tractors, get a 1 ton. The age and mileage you’ll be looking at, you won’t see a difference in price. Personally, I’d find a clean ‘99-‘03 7.3 liter with 250k miles or so and upgrade the turbo and injectors. If you find the right deal, you could be close to 15k and you’d have a 375 hp truck that runs as well as a new one, but without all the hassle of these newer diesels. The transmission would be on the clock, but once you eventually upgraded that you’d likely have a trouble free truck for 200k+ miles.

Good info. Thanks. I’ll only be hauling a tractor 5 times a year at best, so I don’t want a truck specifically for that, but capable when needed.

No I just did a quick autotrader search to see what was available. There' a really clean 1-owner '99 regular cab 250 4x4 with only 165k miles, and it's spotless. But it's listed for $14900 Not the kind of truck I'd take out to a farm personally.

Not to be a smart arse but mid range can mean a lot of things. You talking a 40hp or a 100hp?

If you really had a farm you would already own a truck.

With the trailer it will be right at your max payload but it will pull it, as long as not going long distance.

If so just get that one ton posted above.

OP Unless you are towing I suggest a gas engine

Maintenance is going to be higher and repair cost higher also

All depends on use and how much you use it.

If pulling heavy trailers yes- diesel

If just a farm truck I would look for gas

This. I had an '01 2500 6.0 that I wish I still had. 280k when I sold it and no problems whatsoever. All I did was change oil and put tires on it. Pulled a skid steer all over N.E. TX with it. Not once did I wish I had a diesel.
