If you're going to wear jeans, you better have on nice shoes and a nice blazer.
If you want to be a successful adult, go put on slacks and a blazer, no tie.

BTW, I live in California. Does that change anything?
No it doesnt. Jeans and sneakers is not business-anything.

Dear God, no. Business Casual is dress slacks, ironed button front shirt or polo, and dress loafers/shoes...not tennis shoes.

You are a terrible dresser. Please dont ever wear a button up shirt with tennis shoes ever again.

Jesus H Christ how old are you. Do yourself a favor and burn those with fire.
The only people I see wearing those are middle aged men trying to be "hip". Go buy yourself a nice casual pair of shoes.
Women often judge a man by his shoes, but you live in California so you probably don't care about that

Yeah, that's fine.
Just make sure you don't use too much gel, I mean "product" in your hair.
The other baristas have been complaining that you're making the hats sticky.

I find this to be the preferred wedding attire of men over 40 in Ascension Parish

If you are in California, that sounds fine.
The only people I've seen wear "slacks", pressed shirts, and dress shoes for business casual in California are sales people. And they usually have cologne and too much hair product.

So people in California dress like slobs?
Typically business casual is dress pants/chinos and a button down shirt with loafers/leather shoes, at a minimum.

Business casual is a pair of nice slacks with a button down long sleeve shirt sans tie.

You have a better feel for the market and what constitutes business casual there than probably anyone on this board.
That said, my interpretation of business casual is:
khakis at a minimum, preferably slacks with a clean line;
oxford button down at a minimum, preferably a pressed dress shirt;
dress shoes, loafers, or well maintained boots.
For a B-school networking event, I feel like I would err more on the side of being overdressed than underdressed. If you get there and everyone is in jeans and t-shirts, you can roll your sleeves up. To me, though, jeans are not part of business casual unless you are wearing a sport coat, and even then it's fairly questionable.
