SPD partnered with loss prevention investigators from Target, Fred Meyer, Barnes & Noble, and Walmart to confirm that Henrikson was purchasing sets that were stolen from the aforementioned retailers. During the execution of the search warrant, Springfield Police recovered 4,153 sets of Legos with a total value of over $200,000.

"In many cases suspects stole hundreds of dollars' worth of Legos and then exchanged the stolen items for cash at the store, most often at a fraction of the actual retail value," SPD shared.

Can we talk about the ridiculousness of LEGO prices these days? 200,000 / 4153 = over $48 apiece. That's an absurdly high average, and a lot of them are WAY more than $48.

I like how they are posing with it as if it's a giant drug bust

Yep.
Went to Target the other day and saw one that looked interesting, as it was an old style Atari 2600 with the games.
The price on it was something like $200.
Good concept but crack is cheaper.

My 5 year old is way into Star Wars legos. I might as well postpone my retirement for a few years

Let Kathleen Kennedy stay at the helm for Star Wars and you probably get a lot of those kits at a discount at a second hand store.

Knew a guy who would buy bulk bricks then assemble bootleg Lego kits to sell online. Apparently that's a thing and good business. He would get friends to smurf the bulk blocks because they were tracking him and wasn't allowed to buy bulk anymore.
Not sure if he still does the bootlegging.

I have about 350k bricks, almost every space themed set from the 90s (ice planet 2002 was awesome) multiple other themes. Some stuff in box still. All in a shed somewhere at a buddies.
I wonder what it's worth.

Probably more than you think. There are "brick" stores all over the place that will give you money for bins of just loose Legos. Complete sets get you more money. We have a place that recently opened in Metairie that does buy/sell/trade and it's crazy what people are spending on Lego sets and what that store is paying people for their old shite. My neighbor got $350 for a 10 year old Harry Potter set a few weeks ago. The store listed it for $725 and had it sold withing 24hrs.
People and their money, man.....

I refuse to pay that much for bits of plastic. It's just absurd.
I get my kid bulk knock off Legos. Be creative...build your own shite like I use too.

My lego investment portfolio. Star Wars and Mario had been good to me. I try to buy sets at 40% off or better.
