as a kid we were never really close to our backpacks at that age so idk how much good that will do

God is not smiling on our country when bullet resistant back packs exist.

You asked if anyone had thought of buying a bulletproof backpack. The answer, again, is no. As someone who worked in a school district for 15+ years, has been in a lockdown situation in a school, and in a district that had a school shooting, I was literally just suggesting better alternatives to focus your energy.
The kids I was in lockdown with didn’t have their backpacks with them, so making it bulletproof is a moot point. The kids at the school where we had a shooting had majority of their backpacks in lockers. So again, not of use.
I love that you apparently have one of these in your house after reading my post.

Didn't expect Boo to be on board for that.
I thought it was worth looking into more.
When I was a kid we always had our backpacks at our desks, so it would be right at hand if shite went south.

I am just throwing this out there because I know people will take advantage of people's fears. How many kids are keeping their backpacks on in class?
I know you can never be too safe, but how practical is this?

If it gives you the slightest bit of peace of mind, get it.

He'll be fine at school and you'll feel the same pit in your stomach hoping he's not out drinking Bud heavies the first time he takes off in the family SUV.
Get him a cool Avengers backpack and lunch box or whatever kids are into these days

I'm not bashing you HC. I understand the worries of a parent.

It's a damn shame something such as these even needs to exist.

You are getting bashed because of your replies to people giving practical answers.

Most people aren't bashing you, just pointing out that a bulletproof backpack a younger child can wear is extremely limited in protection and application. Soldiers have plates for a reason.

But I hate that I have to do that.
You don’t.
School shootings are rare.

People can bash me all the frick the want. Skillet literally today made it obvious who I am which is annoying yet again but whatever.
Skillet has stalked us at Costsco

And they post this all on here. Excuse me.
Idk. I have a kid so you creepy mother frickers need to stop.
I swear to God Skillet or link I'm done

I didn't see anything in the description regarding the size of the actual plate but I assume it's relatively small. Maybe an 8x10 or 10x12 at most. As I stated before, the armor levels in these packs are really not adequate for the environment they are intended to be used in.
They will also only provide protection to one side of the body. It is dependent on the child to wear the backpack appropriately during a high pressure, fast moving, scary situation such as a school shooting.
The teachers are trained to get the children away from the threat and out of the school. Run, hide, fight, in that order. I personally wouldn't want my child concerned with, locating their backpack, the proper placement of his or her backpack, and then trying to run and keep up with the group with a 10lb+ pack on their back or front side.
It's a novel idea that someone will make a lot of money off of, but in my view it just doesn't work effectively.
