Accompanied by “pallbearers” in Halloween costumes, the Budweiser Clydesdales tramped through Salt Lake streets and visited bars while Budweiser representatives handed out “obituaries” for 3.2 beer. The 3.2% alcohol by weight limit has been in place since the end of Prohibition in 1933. Stronger beers are available at state-run liquor stores, and the new law will transition several popular beers, like Stella Artois and Pacifico, from the liquor store to the corner store. The state may have to destroy some unsold beer, if any below 4% beer remains after Thursday, because state liquor stores can no longer carry that kind.
