My slight dad bod says otherwise
I could probably cut that to $800 per month if we ate out less.

Makes him a genius. He knows his disciples are shite with money so they will buy up anything he sells.
We were having a discussion about him on the money talk a couple of weeks ago, and someone mentioned that he tells people to forego even the company 401k match and lay down debt. Something like that is a little too extreme, even for him. But overall, for his audience, his method works.

We probably spend $75 per week eating out and could completely cut that out if we wanted. Our budget from a percentage standpoint has for more leeway than the people in the OP though.

If you have a lick of basic financial acumen, he's not for you. Fortunately for him, most are clueless, and he gives them an easy, repeatable process to fix their mistakes.

That's a good and optimistic way to frame it.

I think it was you that told me we weren't upper middle class

You have teenagers and you're renting?

They're also paying $2500/yr in homeowner's insurance for a $1.5MM house.
LA is horrific from an insurance standpoint.

We were fairly conservative on the last house we bought. My mortgage is probably less than a nice 2 BR apartment here

80 grand on just the house is a shame, too high IMHO
42K in childcare? Uh...
figure a max of 250 days of work, that's 168 per day, but they probably have a live in nanny
23k in food is 63.00 per day not outrageous at all

It was. You're upper class. The people in the OP being idiots doesn't change that.
I'm just laughing at the way you framed it, but you're right. Having $7300 left after $500k gross is 1.5%. Having $2k on $100k gross is "better from a percentage standpoint," but it doesn't necessarily feel like you're doing better.

Their budget would make me not be able to sleep at night.
