The group with the long rap sheets?

yes, if only there was a commonality about this demographic. Some distinctive trait they all shared so that we could identify the group of people that seem to show up at public events and frick it up for everyone else.
There's not. Because the vast majority of those who fit the physical deception of the people in groups who do get into trouble actually stay clear of trouble. But you go ahead and keep running and hiding when you see folks who have certain physical chatacteristics and dress and talk a certain way.

That group doesn't want us there anyway. White devils and all. We are giving them what they want, voluntary segregation.

I used to go to earth day when I lived in BR. Albeit, I didn't go at night, it was all clean and didn't have any thugs. I always knew a few people working, and they'd close shop early to beat the riff-raff out

Meh, no matter how you slice it, the cop is wrong for beating him one he is subdued and in handcuffs.
Did he deserve an asswhipping? Probably, we all did at some point, but it shouldn't come at the hands of a cop. There is really no other way to look at this that is correct.
Truth is, even the biggest assholes on this forum understand this at a molecular level. It's just that they don't give two shits about most of the people being beaten by these types of officers, so they can be glib about it. Add to that the assumption that such a thing could NEVER happen to them, because ONLY the truly guilty would ever be accosted by an officer, and you've got a situation where normally rational people defend this sort of thing and suggest they want this...
Why else would you get idiots suggesting that people being arrested deserve an arse beating at the hands of officers who are not assigned to do anything but subdue situations and allow the rest of the system to dole our punishment?

how stupid of you to say this with absolute certitude when you cannot possibly be certain about it.
You tell me a situation where it is within a cop's job description for him to beat up a suspect?
This isn't an argument about whether or not the kid deserved an arse whipping, this is about whether a cop is within his rights to be the one to deliver that arse whipping.
Do you think this is the protocol that is supposed to be used? Is this the SOP?
I've been called a "bootlicker" countless times on this site, but I'm not going to gloss over a situation where a cop obviously lost his cool and went over the line. I'm not calling for his head, but c'mon people, this is open and shut brutality.

no it is not. watch the video more closely. the cop is hitting the kid. But is he hitting him with a closed fist or slapping him? The kid was interviewed last night on Channel 2 and admitted he had "no bumps or bruises" from the encounter. So, while I agree the cop appears to have lost his cool and a reprimand is probably in order, I am not going to say this is a clear cut case of brutality. We don't have to search very hard to find egregious abuse by cops. The school resource officer body slamming the 12YO girl in Harris County immediately comes to mind. That officer was terminated, I believe. Justly so, if accurate. But I'm not prepared to render a jusdgement based solely on the video provided.
Funny the kid who was beaten only requested the charges be dropped. Its his Port Allen attorney who is pushing a law suit. Odd for the victim of such "brutality" to be so indifferent about the reparation for such an experience.

Not odd at all. Would you want to be on BRPD's shite list? You have to think about where and how these kids live, they don't have the same interactions with police as rich white people. If I were that kid I would be a steel trap, I didn't see shite, I didn't hear shite, my mouth would be glued shut.

What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? There are still unknowns about the case and everyone is so quick to pass judgement. While this isn't quite to scale, the same thing happened in Ferguson. The media skews a story and the public develops a mob mentality and takes it from there. Then the autopsy report is published and it turns out the officer was justified in his actions.

There are many. Why can't you think of one?

The BRPD has placed Sgt. Todd Bourgoyne on PAID administrative leave in the internal investigation into this incident

Because we'd need to argue over the semantics of what we'd both consider "beating" is a good place to start.
My biggest issue in this thread is not with those guys who think the LEO's actions in this situation are probably warranted in that he's within the bounds of his job to subdue the suspect...even though I may disagree with them.
My issue is with guys who feel the need to go beyond that and suggest that they're ok with the actions because they support the office handing out punishment. That position is simply idiotic, regardless of what the suspect may or may not have done. Punishment is just not the job of the LEO...in any way. Why is that not obvious?

I think it is funny they aren't saying "PAID" anymore in their press releases so I quoted it as written. But I am sure you are correct.

Field punishment shouldn't exist. I agree with that.
However, if a cop said I could do 20 pushups as my punishment to avoid a heft fine for speeding I'm doing pushups. A strike to the head, no.
Lots of gray areas.

Again...no. That's NOT his job. I don;t care how innocuous his decision on punishment is, it's simply not his job to be assigning any. At all.

Then feel free to tell all those in this thread that as they continue to suggest suspects deserve exactly that.

Lots of gray areas.
There really isn't. A LEO has one job...enforce the law. At time that means he'll have to subdue a suspect...and in doing so follow certain rules of engagement, for instance...not beat a suspect because he was mad that he had to chase him down, or because he cursed him, etc. Retribution is not ok. In no way is his job one of doling out any form of punishment. It's just not what we pay them for.

I have known this officer for ten years. He is a great guy and very popular, not only on the force but with a lot of people here. I don't know what happened prior to the video but I have to believe he was super pissed. Granted it is their job to handle things but after seeing what they were dealing with all day, I wish everyone would give him a break. There is always more to the story. The lack of respect to police is going to hurt a lot of people. I'm thinking if this kid had had a whipping from his parents at some point, maybe he would have been spared this time.
