As for my original post, names of citizens involved in these situations seem to be released w/out a fuss. When cops are involved, they tend to use the "we won't release their names for fear that they or their family will be in danger" excuse. I'm just curious why it doesn't work both ways.

It does. No two scenarios are indentical or handled exactly the same way. There have been numerous incidents where officers names were released in the spot.

They have been trolling for DWI's in that area for years.. I lived about two blocks from where this incident occurred and was pulled over no less than 4 times in a two year period at night.. Petty or no reasons to why and the cop(s) was looking for DUI.. They treated me like a criminal each time and it's tainted my entire view of the police in BR.

ETA: I've never had a DUI...

am hoping they analyze the officers weapon and have the suspects DNA on it or have video. You need something besides "ummmmm, he tried to grab my gun."

Well I'm pretty sure the officer didn't go all, "license, registration" and then emptied his clip on the guy

You miss the point of my post. I am saying they should do a thorough investigation, put the details out to the public and avoid accusations of cover up/impropriety. Because right now none of us knows what happened.

Ah, I bet I know who he is then. He use to work a detail at a restaurant I worked at and I still see him around town.

I think he was a bouncer at The Bengal back in the day. Definitely enjoyed giving a good arse kicking albeit many of them deserved.

Maybe the guy was just pissed off that they're giving out too many DWIs in Baton Rouge. I've seen nights were there were literally 33, weeks where there were a hundred. enough is enough.

How can they give out too many. If you drive drunk hopefully you get a DWI before you kill someone. It is really simple in that regard.

I meant on the actual cop not just the car. How good would video be from the car if the altercation was to take place near the back door while trying to put him inside the car? It wouldn't hurt to have another camera to catch any possible blind spots/ provide different perspective.
