Hey, sometimes better to be quiet and not advertise your intelligence level, right, Albert?
But, keep sharing.

Even better to not lose my cool over a random message board poster to the point of having to take medication. Seems like you really have it figured out, buddy

Unless he was passing another vehicle,

since cop was trying to pass on the right I am guessing there was no vehicle in that lane...but could be wrong

Left lane is for passing, not cruising.

That's right. Cop should've stayed in the left lane and there would be no crash. Car that was in the left lane and then switched to the right may have very well been using it for passing without even noticing the officer. I have seen officers flying down the interstate many many many times without lights.

Had the driver yielded earlier there would have not been a wreck.

Your sure the cop had his lights on and his siren blaring?

I just wish this could stop for awhile. There's a person in the hospital. He's hurt pretty bad apparently. He only hurt himself, luckily. Chances are good he has friends and/or family on here. Can the blame and second guessing wait for awhile at least? I'd hate to trip over this thread if I were close to him.

i would think the cop veered to avoid possibly hitting the driver ahead of him

Yeah. For whatever reason the driver in the left lane probably did not see him until late and then moved over to the right as the cop was moving over to the right. I still think it's important to know if the cop had his lights on the entire time or did he turn them on only as he got closer to the vehicle that was in the left lane. In a non-emergent situation such as a burglar alarm being checked, I don't think it's all that uncommon for a police officer to drive with his lights off. My alarm tripped one time and I made it home to turn it off. About three minutes later a cop was driving down my street to check on it with his lights off. Hope the cop is OK.

That doesn't absolve the cop of using caution

It says he moved right to pass a vehicle. How many threads are started each year about idiots driving slow in the left lane. If I had to place a bet on either the cop bring reckless or his wreck bring caused by one of those idiots, I'd bet on the idiot.

Your problem is you automatically assume he's wrong. You're part of the "they better get ticketed b/c I sure as hell would" crowd. Are they above the law? Hell no. But they sure as hell get more leeway than the everyday citizen on the road. The everyday driver doesn't have to deal with anything remotely close to what the officer must deal with while operating a vehicle.

I'd rather be on the road with a cop driving aggressively bc he's responding to a potentially dangerous/lethal situation where every second could mean life/death for someone then drive around the retards that pay no attention, are drunk, are on their phones, or weave in and out of traffic unnecessarily without using signals.

And if it's my 911 call, I'd hope The responding officer would do everything in his power to get to me as soon as possible.

Every time you see a cop driving aggressively they could be responding to any kind of call, and even if it's a mundane disturbance call I think we can all agree that recent history has shown us that even that could mean anything.

Deducing from the comments made by the guy in law enforcement in this thread, combined with personal observation of cops driving reckless, it seems like he was probably going so fast and reckless that he lost control of his vehicle when he and the other car changed lanes at the same time. Cars changing lanes at the same time happens all the time, without incident, due to people driving at a manageable enough speed to a avoid disaster.

Your 'personal observations" are yours only and have absolutely ZERO bearing on this situation. Get over yourself.
So when there is a possible home invasion at your house and the cops get there too late "due to people driving at a manageable enough speed to avoid disaster" and your family was murdered, you'd be willing to accept the explanation from BRPD that the officer didn't want to endanger anybody so he only drove 40 mph in the right lane? Just asking.
He was responding to a home alarm alert without knowing if was a false alarm or a robbery or a home invasion. Appropriately he was speeding to respond; and you wouldn't want it any other way when your house alarm goes off would you?
Stop it.

When seconds count, all cops MUST stay in their lanes use the PA system to politely ask moronic drivers to get out of the way; and patiently wait for said drivers to get out the way. They cannot aggressively respond to any call for any reason whatsoever. Got it.
Did it ever occur to you that you have no idea why those officers are "flying down the interstate many many many times without lights?" You have no idea what they're responding to yet you so eagerly pass judgement.
How bout the next time you need a cop, he just meanders down the road, taking his sweet time so as not to offend the "cops are guilty til proven innocent" crowd. Hope you don't need a cop any time soon.

What if he crashes into a median, thus not making it to the the call, and my family gets murdered?

Better yet. People who bitch about the police all the time shouldn't call them at all when something happens. Just suck it up. Got robbed? Oh well. At least you didn't have to deal with the cops. Some dude arse raping you in the alley? At least the police aren't speeding down the street with their lights on.
