It was an activated alarm????? Why the rush???? I could understand more if it were shots fired, but anything can set off an alarm...... god damn some of yall are morons...cops should only be in a rush if shots are fired

AND in the next thread when the police don't respond fast enough to the alarm at their house these same morons will be bitching at the police driving cautiously. Seriously don't understand why anyone would want to be a police officer in current times.

FWIW, the reason they may hurry to a call and not use their lights is exactly what happened here. People already drive like idiots but when they see blue lights they lose all control and do really stupid shite. Like this case for instance.

I'm in law enforcement and from what I've heard, he was responding to a call (not sure the type of call), another vehicle was in left lane. Officer switches to right lane to pass that vehicle, but while doing so, the vehicle in left lane also switches to the same lane. Officer swerved back left to avoid that vehicle, lost control, and struck center wall then flipped his unit. Again, this is what I've heard so not sure how accurate that is.

Well, damn. Sounds like just a shitty set of unfortunate circumstances. ... And also another example of why drivers need to use the left lane for passing, not cruising, which is my #1 pet peeve & the cause of so many wrecks on interstates/highways. Again, hope officer is ok & glad no one else was injured.

GTFO with this nonsense. I defend cops on here almost tirelessly. This guy was involved in a single vehicle accident. It's most likely his fault.

It sucks that he hurt himself, but just stop.

.i said it still could be possible the vehicle didn't yield properly.

And it would still be his fault for not being cautious of his surrounding. There were no other vehicles involved. If it was the other guy's fault, you don't think they'd be hunting that driver down?

true...its gotten to the point where cops shouldn't be in a hurry to stop crime. An active alarm could mean a simple burglary, false alarm, or home invasion but cops should just err on side of caution and treat it as a false alarm

Sorry that went over your head..... not sure where alarm was but still he could have used more caution.... hope he fully recovers and I mean zero disrespect for law officers. Just an observation.....

If you go to the Metro Council meetings every other week, or at least review the agenda items; at nearly every meeting there's a budget item to settle or pay out for damages related to a police, fire, or ems accident where the city-parish vehicle is at fault. Apologies that I would like them to drive safely.

Just a few weeks ago I watched a BRPD unit run a red light with his lights on, but never yielded to oncoming (green light) traffic. Nearly T-boned a vehicle with the right of way.

One of the most illogical, unreasonable, inaccurate statements I've read on here. And pretty positive there's not a cop on the planet who'd agree with you that it's better for an officer NOT to engage his lights & siren when speeding down the interstate on a call in the middle of the night. Ridiculous.

ETA: From what the officer in this thread posted regarding this particular incident, the driver of the vehicle that the cop swerved to avoid was driving in the left lane & attempted to move to the right, presumably when he noticed the officer behind him, albeit it too late. I consider that driver to be an idiot because he was cruising in the left lane on the interstate, but according to the officer who posted in this thread, nothing was said about the driver freaking out & losing control of his vehicle because he saw & heard lights & sirens; he simply attempted to move to the right lane, which he should have been in to begin with. Had nothing to do with lights & siren except the driver obviously saw & heard them too late.

i am just saying he may have been using caution...just b/c he lost control doesn't necessarily mean he was at fault. I think we have all seen drivers do some pretty stupid shite. On my way to work the left and right lane vehicles almost hit each other going 60mph had the left lane driver not swerved they would have crashed.

me too and i see your side of the argument...im not saying the cop may not have been wreckless i just don't know. either way i doubt they ever ticket cops for responding to calls and crashing.

That doesn't absolve the cop of using caution while overtaking vehicles responding to the call.

Just curious, do you have any info that the policeman wasn't using caution?

I sure do. He was involved in a single vehicle accident and no one else is being searched for.

Well that settles that I guess. Mr. Inside Information has it all figured out.

Gotcha. So just to be clear everyone, if LNCHBOX is driving safely down the interstate in the left lane, passing a vehicle in the right hand lane, and that vehicle suddenly swerves in front of him, and he runs into the median and is almost killed, and the other driver continues going and doesn't.....LNCHBOX believes that LNCHBOX should be presumed guilty of not using caution.

Guilty until proven innocent. Glad we got that out of the way.

Whole lot of assumptions of things that happened there.
