I wish I had known you were going to respond,, took me several tries to get that copying and pasting in the right spot!

Now we're getting to some assumptions.
Says the guy that assumes the cop wasn't using caution based on "He was involved in a single vehicle accident and no one else is being searched for".

Again, how much would you like to wager that the cop is blame-free in all this?

then the statement didn't include you.

This guy was involved in a single vehicle accident. It's most likely his fault.
that very well may be.
my point was that there are people here who will never agree with anything cops do.
Just like there are those here who believe cops can do no wrong.

Who said anything about him being blame free, other than you?
The cop could have been using caution, and still not be completely blame free. There's always, looking back, things people could have done better. That doesn't assume, however, that they are guilty and deserve to be ticketed.

So the other vehicle now caused this policeman to swerve?
Yes, otherwise cop would've hit the vehicle which was cruising in the left lane, didn't get over when cop got behind him, decided to finally move to the right lane which he should've been in to begin with, but cop had already started to pass idiot to the right when said idiot finally decided to move over to the right at the same time. Cop swerved to miss him.

quote:This is a very ignorant and over simplified statement. Should fire trucks only speed when shots are fired? More to the point should they only speed if a life is in danger at the scene??
...cops should only be in a rush if shots are fired
quote:This is not legal as of the last time I went through the class which was put on by the State Police.
FWIW, the reason they may hurry to a call and not use their lights is exactly what happened here.
quote:I don't find this to be true. You would be surprised what most people do to let emergency vehicles pass.
...but when they see blue lights they lose all control and do really stupid shite.
Ya'll consider this, it is illegal to drive in the left lane except when passing. I'll assume that if the officer was going to attempt to pass to the right I'll assume there was no car there to be passed. Perhaps the car he was attempting to pass is the vehicle that should be ticketed.
I find many opinions in this thread all based on no knowledge. Knowing the rules for emergency driving and knowing the details such as exact position of car A and car B is the only way this can be written up.
It's very possible this officer will not be ticketed. Professional courtesy does exist BUT many civilians aren't ticketed in such situations when no other property is damaged. You can believe one thing, what he will receive on the job is far worse than any ticket if he is able to return to work. He will LOVE to receive only a ticket.

Just by sheer probability, it's unlikely that he's entirely blame-free from a civil liability standpoint. But that's not nearly the same as implying that he's 100% at fault. It's possible that he's 100% at fault and it's possible that he's 0% at fault. From the description of the events given so far, I think it sounds like the other driver was about to cause a collision and the officer tried to avoid the collision but was unable to maintain control while doing so. His speed may have been a contributing factor to his inability to maintain control, but the primary causal factor in the crash would be the other vehicle improperly changing lanes.

SO now you're on my side that the cop is at fault? Glad we worked that out.

it's the median's fault!

Not sure if you're talking about what I posted, but if so I never said he was going "so fast and reckles." Don't put words into other people's mouths
You posted:

another vehicle was in left lane. Officer switches to right lane to pass that vehicle, but while doing so, the vehicle in left lane also switches to the same lane. Officer swerved back left to avoid that vehicle, lost control, and struck center wall then flipped his unit
If this is true, then he was going so fast that he couldn't even react when he saw the other car come into the same lane without running into a median. I can only deduce that he was driving reckless. What other conclusion am I to come to?
Look, I am not doubting that the other car was also to blame, but it seems like it probably could have easily been avoided. I've just seen it so many times before: a cop driving like a fricking lunatic, putting urgency above self-preservation, and the safety of the public.

On your side? Ummmm...no, I don't believe as you, and I quote you, believe that the cop wasn't exercising caution because "He was involved in a single vehicle accident and no one else is being searched for."
You might want to go back and edit that post. I don't know how you're going to get around that reasoning not coming back to bite you.

That could happen riding bicycles at 25 mph, cmon mannn. You can't be that ignorant, can you??

According to the guy in law enforcement in this thread, he was going so fast and reckless that he lost control of his vehicle when he and the other car changed lanes at the same time
What the frick?!?!? That is absolutely not what he said.
quote:
Cars changing lanes at the same time happens all the time, without incident, due to people driving at a manageable enough speed to a avoid disaster.
Yeah, and there are a shite ton of disasters on the interstates because of this; I see it weekly on I-30 because of idiots cruising in the left fricking lane when their asses should be in the right, they refuse to move over, vehicle behind them in left lane tries to pass to the right, idiot in front of him moves to the right simultaneously, driver behind him cannot avoid him, tragedy ensues.
Whole lotta reading comprehension issues & illogical biases to the point of being a-logical in here. Gotta be libs. It's like trying to explain that illegal immigrants are here illegally.

Sure, it could, I agree, but just from personal observation, I am willing to bet that it could have been avoided with some safer driving from the officer.

Well, one other option would be he was speeding running code, trying to get around the other vehicle, the other vehicle driver panicked, and started swerving into him, causing him to wreck.
You do realize, other vehicle swerve into civilian paths all the time, causing them to over correct, and get in an accident. And the swerver is considered at fault. Right?

I am pretty sure that I stated that I deduced that from his comments based on the information he gave. Never said that he said that.

you think the cop swerved just to swerve?
No. It is reported that the officer lost control when he had to swerve after he and the other car changed lanes at the same time. The likely scenario is the other car was switching lanes to get out of the cops way and the cop switched lanes to try to and go around. Why is everyone on here so quick to blame the driver of the other car when it was the cop who is traveling at a high rate of speed? And no, I don't fault the cop for traveling at a high rate of speed.

don't really care for the tinge of elitist attitude, but agree with all you said.
Except, I would call it "common sense" on most all driving, something that isn't being doled out too much these days.

Left lane is for passing, not cruising.
