BATON ROUGE — A Baton Rouge Police officer is on restricted duty after she was placed on leave while an internal affairs investigation is underway from a DWI summons.
Officer Sabrione Reed, who has been with BRPD for nearly five years, was issued a summons last week after she was allegedly driving under the influence and speeding, BRPD said.
Baton Rouge Police confirmed to UWK that officers were running radar on May 30 around 12:30 a.m. on Interstate 12 near the Sherwood Forest Blvd. exit when Reed blew past them going nearly 100 mph. Officers eventually got behind the driver in Denham Springs when Reed pulled over on the shoulder of I-12 between the Denham & Juban exits. She was off-duty at the time of the incident and not in her police unit.
The Baton Rouge officer was issued a summons for a first-offense DWI and additional traffic charges. Standard procedure for most law enforcement on a first-offense DWI is a summons, which is considered an arrest, but does not involve anyone being booked into parish prison with a mugshot.
Officer Reed was placed on administrative leave, but that has since been changed to restricted duty. Meanwhile, BRPD has launched an internal affairs investigation into the officer to determine if she violated any of the department’s policies or procedures.
“We issued the summons to our own officer, as we would to anyone else on these charges. No one is above the law, especially not officers. It’s why we’ve now launched an internal affairs investigation into this officer. Matters involving my own men and women are taken very seriously and investigated to the fullest extent,” Chief T.J. Morse said.

Would be surprised if they actually have a policy that their officers should avoid breaking any laws

Pretty sure everyone else would have been arrested and had to spend at least the next 24 hours locked up.

Our resident attorney, Joshjrn has stated time and time again if you are pulled over for DWI in EBRP you will be booked into the EBRPP. An average citizen will not be issued a summons and their car will be towed.

TJ, do you believe your own bullshite? Pretty sure anyone else would've been arrested and spent a few hours in jail.
Where does BR pull its leaders from? Last Chief was a complete loser and this guy isn't any better. Just white. The mayor has proven to be a failure, the DA as well. Is there anyone else in a leadership role in EBR who can disappoint the citizens?

Actually, first offense DWI you are Actually released. From that point on you are booked.
I know a couple guys that work task force, so I was told that. At least she was arrested
ETA: at least the officers didn't sweep it under rug. Sounds like she got arrested and a bunch of tickets.

DWI and 100 MPH and they just issue a summons? Hell, let me go get my load on so I can test this theory out this afternoon.
I'm not disputing you were told that, but I have a hard time believing it.
Then again it is BRPD, so they probably are this inept and useless.

Yeah the average citizen of BR is going to jail, no summons.

Standard procedure since Covid.
The Baton Rouge Police Department holds their own accountable, without fear or favor malice or ill will. Honor means doing the hard thing, even when it’s one of your own.
