One person is dead and another person is in the hospital with serious injuries after a crash on Tuesday night, Sept. 24.
The Baton Rouge Police Department confirmed a 2003 Honda Accord hit a concrete pillar around 10 p.m. on I-110 South before Capitol Access Road.
quote:
Police said the initial investigation determined the Honda was traveling southbound on I-110 when the front left tire became locked due to an axle malfunction. The Honda then hit the concrete barrier, sliding across the top of it until striking a concrete support pillar for the Capital Access overpass. The vehicle then caught fire.

Damn, that’s awful. It makes it even worse that the kid did absolutely nothing wrong and just had a mechanical failure at the worst time

A 21 year old Honda? Gonna have a hard time putting the burden on the manufacturer

I'ma need to know how fast he was travelling before assuming he did nothing wrong. I drive through there over a hundred times a year including last night about 45 minutes before this accident.
People FLY through there and in some janky arse cars at that. It's a piss poor design I know but the speed limit is 50mph through there for a reason.

I wonder how long he had the car, and how many owners the car has passed through in the past 20+ years.

Could a CV failure...
They don't generally lock, though...

probably 55-56. I like to live life on the edge. but not the edge of the interstate barrier like this young man did.

Funny you say that. Just this morning at 610 a gray Camaro sped by me going southbound and into the curve. The entire car was shaking. Never seen such.
I even recorded it as a talking point in the morning. Was expecting a wreck.

Did it happen right under the Gordon sign?

I'm sure they have 20+ years of meticulous maintenance records on this car

How in the world, less than 24 hours after a vehicle caught on fire did they determine the cause of the accident? Seens like terrible reporting.

Several months ago I was driving with traffic slowed way down in front of me. A few cars up I could see some smoke - I figured someone was driving a POS that burned more oil than gas. When I was able to get around it, I saw this car was driving with the left rear wheel locked up; the smoke was coming from the tire as it was just being dragged down the road. I guess it was a bearing that completely seized up. I wondered how long it was making noise before it finally gave up and how far he thought he would get like that.

How did they figure out an axle issue was to blame?

First thing corporate attorney will do is demand the detailed maintenance records. As soon as you are unable to produce those, they will have any potential suit thrown out.
