Most of us on here get a little perverse enjoyment out of someone who had it made in this country because she could play basketball. All she did was talk about how oppressed she was, how racist everyone was and how hard she had it here. She's probably singing a different tune now.

Re Russian prison camps, there have been several descriptions of them as being horrendous, places where the prison guards have almost free rein to do what they want to the prisoners. They are not standard, U.S.-like prisons, i.e. a large building with rows of prison cells, on top of each other. Rather, they are like "small villages" out in the middle of nowhere, Siberia-like isolation. Very poor hygiene conditions, unhealthy food, minimal protection from the weather, showers at best once every few weeks. These descriptions come from former American prisoners, subsequently released. She is not going to any special place, she's going to a standard Russian penal colony. The prisoners perform mind numbing work, 12 hours a day, making button holes in winter coats, sewing up tears in worn military uniforms, etc

When and if she makes it home, I bet she has a new found appreciation for the freedoms she enjoys here in the US of A. Perhaps she'll stand up with pride next time she has the privilege of hearing our anthem and won't consider the US such a terrible place anymore.

Having worked as a prison guard for 4 years, and in the merchant marine for 14, I seem to be particularly qualified to almost certainly guarantee that you have 1), never spent a day of your live in prison (good for you btw), and 2), never stepped foot in Russia, or The Ukraine, or the Balkans, or any other Eastern European country.
First of all, two physical traits that are basically of no use to you in prison are to be very small person for obvious reason, or to be a very large person, as a particular "sport" within prison populations is to "remove" any trace of the alpha perceived or otherwise in other inmates.
As for being incarcerated in Russia, the one thing I discovered in my time there as with other Eastern European countries, is that those folks will go tribal on your arse in a heartbeat.
I've seen more than a handful of sailors, almost exclusively American black sailors get messed up on the streets for not being accustomed to this particular phenomenon from an oppressed white population.
Griner will probably be always one smart arse comment away from those Russian women having their way with her at best, or having her skull cracked open at worse.
