Whether you believe it or not, it is going to be looked at as a 1 for 1 trade by most...regardless of what the media says, because no one has ever heard of the US spy. More than that, the optics are terrible for the administration. An administration that every day is touting something about "common sense" gun control is releasing one of the world's top gun-runners.

Russia could not give any less of a shite about the crime Griner committed. But they are smart enough to know she fits nicely into the American leftist "victim" category and they can use her as leverage against an Administration that has been pathetic from the start and desperately needs something they can tout as a "win". Ideally, the nations should not be trading prisoners at all. But given that is not an uncommon practice, even if the US gets their spy back it is STILL a ridiculously bad trade.

In fact, if I'm Russia I laugh at the trade proposal and say we'll give you your basketball player back for a prisoner of our choosing. Because the media has latched on to this as their latest "victim" crusade, the administration has no leverage. They tried to ignore the whole situation for a while, or deal with it quietly. But when you are beholden to the "woke" crowd, you are perpetually forced to appease their whims...which can NEVER be satisfied. If Russia rejects the trade what is the Biden admin going to do? Say mean things about Russia? Newsflash, Russia doesn't give a shite about that.
