You realize you aren't making any sense trying to equate that with Griner's situation, right?

So, what does this being America have to do with it?

She was in Russia. She was arrested in Russia.

Did you know that there are Americans in prisons all over the world?

Even if you did know that, you clearly didn’t care.

Or, at least, you won’t care until CNN or MSNBC tell you that you should care.

What does that have to do with this?

I’m sure some of them are locked up for legit reasons. Unfortunately, Griner isn’t.

Wut? Breaking a law is a legit reason. She wasn't being some activist trying to make change in Russia. She was just being a moron and got caught

We don’t want our citizens locked up for egregious reasons, right?

Right?

So, you have no idea?

Did you protest about the American citizens that were jailed in Saudi Arabia for speaking out against their human rights record?

Did you know that they are still hostages in Saudi Arabia and aren’t permitted to leave the country?

No, you didn’t, because you weren’t told to care, therefore you don’t care.

You only care in the sense that they told you to.

Stop being a hypocrite.

Within hours of being stopped on a rural road in Venezuela, former U.S. Marine Matthew Heath told a court Monday, he found himself naked and strapped to a wire mesh connected to a car battery that would shock him between questions from officers of the country’s military counterintelligence. A few hours later, at a different location, he was threatened with being raped with a nightstick if he did not give them the password to his satellite phone.

quote:

Matthew Heath, a former U.S. Marine jailed under terrorism charges by the Nicolàs Maduro regime in Venezuela, has been hospitalized after trying to take his life on Saturday by using a piece of porcelain broken off from a sink to try to cut his veins, persons close to his defense team said. Heath, who the State Department says has been jailed under “specious” charges, is currently stable after being treated for the wounds on his left arm. “The lesions he inflicted on himself were considerable but he is now out of danger,” a member of his defense team told the Miami Herald.

This guy is still locked up. How about we try to get him out first.

Do you think we would be trading Paul Whelan for the Russian prisoner if Mr. Griner would not be involved???? Think Whelan hit the lottery here…

Probably so b/c we already got Trevor Reed from Russia earlier this year and we have another person Marc Fogel over there who is also in jail for weed who wasn't attached to this deal.

He's a former marine and is accused of being a spy. If he's really a spy than hell yes we'd give an arms dealer to get him back.

We gave them a cocaine trafficker to get Trevor Reed back. I'm sure we have some other plenty of other frickheads Russia wants back that we can trade.

Really?

Whelan has been in Russia going on 5 years now.

Why are they only now offering this trade?

Whelan is accused of being a spy which is a much bigger deal than the shite that got Reed (accused of assaulting a cop) sent to jail so it'll take more to get him out.

Griner probably made it easier to get him out w/a combo deal b/c it would make the optics better for Russia to sell at home but odds are we have been negotiating to get him back for a while now.

It's a 2:1 for one that still not close to a good value. And you are absolutely defending it regardless, so frick off with your bullshite semantics anyway.

I'm not defending anything. I'm just explaining what I think happened.

And again, if Whelan is actually a spy than I don't see how you can possibly claim it's not fair value. What would be fair value to bring back a spy?

Hell if the guy isn't a spy and was actually railroaded then I'm assuming you think he should just be stuck of there to rot? What would be fair value to free a completely innocent person?
