I never heard it that much, but that's okay. It was a different time in our history and I'm glad for the men and women that receive the recognition today.

None by me. I'm assuming the serviceman wore what he felt was correct. Assuming an open bar, his drinks were on me.

18k a year was more than I made in college and I’ve never worn anything other than a suit to a wedding. I mean I’m sorry y’alls priorities were fricked up but stop blaming it on money. He and y’all had it. You just spent it on beer.

I think it's more about there's a general feeling that military uniforms don't belong in civilian functions.

I wouldn't ascribe disdain. More like an awkwardness which comes from not being accustomed to seeing it (uniform.)

That's my take on it anyway.

This is what I’m trying to understand. Growing up in the 70s and early 80s, it was normal to see an active duty men in their dress uniforms at formal events. Same for me when I enlisted in 1988. It was just understood that if it was a formal event a memeber of the military was expected to wear their dress uniform. That was the custom. When and why did that change?

She was simply jealous that her dress sucked in comparison.

Did you have other options that were equivalent to a suit, looked better than a suit, and you didn’t have to pay for it?

Maybe that’s where we disagree. I dont think a military suit in a civilian setting is “equivelant.” But to answer your last question, yes I paid for it. Jos A Banks isn’t expensive like I said

You’re asking why and when something changed from 35 years ago?

This is a very OweOish thread.

I wonder if anyone bitched about the clergy wearing his uniform to the wedding.

There is nothing wrong with wearing it at any formal event, and other than the "semiformal" it's really the only one authorized to wear at these events.

Except this is a wedding, where the only authorized attire is however the bride feels regardless if it's reasonable or not.

Like I said, it's low rent that this lady kicked the guy out. I doubt the uniform code of military Justice dictates a servicemen can wear whatever they want on some bitches wedding day.

She specifically authorized when she said “Black Tie Optional”

Marine Corps régulations specifically authorize the wearing of dress blues at formal social events.

well it seems like most people here agree with me. But hey you got your military buddies backing you. You definitely aren’t a military man that needs recognition Mr. Military, Mr. Pilot.

She said black tie optional. If she didn’t want military attire she should have said so.

I actually did have a suit, regardless of my earlier posts. I had it custom made in Korea for $150. The problem was that 19 year old me wasn't great at picking out suits and it made me look like a Dick Tracy villain so I never wore it.
