Others in this thread have expressed disdain for the uniform and you have NO IDEA how other folks at the wedding felt.

Typical.

Come to think of it, you're right.

Jesus, even the ROTC cadidiots think they're hot shite. I remember in high school one out of Southeastern volunteered to be a substitute teacher and talked about how bad arse he was. Being the son of a crusty NCO, I basically told him he was going to be a private with a degree.

Yeah, he didn't like that.

How the hell does this kind of story make it to the news feed?

Which one was the bitch to push it far enough?

There are some trashy things about people in the military. Wearing a good looking uniform isn’t one of them. Literally no one looks at a Marine in his dress blues and thinks “Eww trashy.”

I never bought 'em when I was in because I just hate how tacky they look. LOVE the alphas and the old school look.

I think everyone is required to have dress blues now. Recruits get them issued in boot camp.

I came home on leave to attend a family members wedding and not for an instant did it cross my mind to wear my dress uniform. Didn't even bring any uniforms with me.
Even though that was a different time in the past, I don't think I would even do it today. If people want to ask me about my service, I would tell them, but I'm not going to put it out there where people would feel like they had to ask.

Take into consideration that the OP wears leather vest and patches and fights other motorcycle groups over the colors of their patches.

I can understand why he thinks it’s okay to do what this marine did.

Maybe he was heading to the officers cocktail party after and didn’t have time to go home and change? Maybe he was shipping out after the wedding. Maybe he was a light sleeper.

Assuming he’s an enlisted Marine. They are poor by most standards. Most don’t have money for formals. When they wear dress blues many think it’s the best look they can have. If he wore it for virtue then screw him. I hope he didn’t - but I can’t wrap my mind around the current generation and their mindset. I will give the young man the benefit of the doubt. The bride sounds like a total bitch.

I've only done it once and that was because my grandpa asked me to wear them to his church. He was my grandpa so I wasn't going to tell him no. I hated wearing my uniform off post, especially when I had to fly in it. People are well meaning but the constant "thank you for your service" comments can feel pretty awkward.

Now this is interesting and brings up more questions for me. Please explain this disdain for the uniform for me. What about it is upsetting?

None by me. I'm assuming the serviceman wore what he felt was correct. Assuming an open bar, his drinks were on me.

Yeah, they have an eveningwear uniform, but I doubt he had that. Mostly likely wore his dress blues

They said it was the mess dress, that is the accurate tuxedo formalwear substitute.
The service dress is reserved for duty or funerals, etc.

There is nothing wrong with wearing it at any formal event, and other than the "semiformal" it's really the only one authorized to wear at these events.
It's just less common, so people think it's attention getting.

Yeah, it saves a dude that makes 18k a year the cost and time of a tux rental, too...
That was likely the real reason he wore it.

Oh my god have y’all ever met a woman or been to a wedding?

Ha...yes, I know how some women are, but I've been to a few really nice weddings where there were a few people there who were like freak shows compared to the guy wearing a marine uniform and the bride didn't freak out, everyone had a great time and they didn't let it become the lasting memory of the day.
