I’d ask the airline a simple question...

Do you want a hungry infant whining on the whole flight?

I’d think having an extra carry on with titty milk at the ready beats a crying baby or the mother having the child nursing in front of the whole plane.

And for the record I’d like to nurse on those too.

She should've just pumped on the plane naked. None of the guys would care.

I hate American even more now. The woman violated the policy. She needed to check the carry on, and tote the pump as a carry on.

If she had the baby with her, why did she need the pump?

If not, pump and dump. Then you can drink on the flight. The flight's not that long.

Must be a new mom.

I mean, the airline states that a breast pump is a medical device that does not count against the carry-on limit. And, you need somewhere to store the breast milk, so I'm not sure why people are going against the mother in this story.

They were not cutting off her boobs. She could have easily carried a bottle or two in her personal item or carry on.

Lady board first and shoves everything in overhead. Then those of us who follow the rules have to put our backpacks under the seat in front of us.

Good thing this wasn't Southwest. They have had enough issues lately.

Try to read the article

quote:

Leslie Scott, a representative of American Airlines, told NBC 5 the argument should never have happened and that the policy is stated clearly on the airline’s website. She said it was an error on the agent’s part.

Or read American's policy

quote:

Diaper bags (1 per child), soft-sided cooler bags with breast milk, child safety seats, strollers and medical or mobility devices don’t count as your personal item or carry-on.

I’m assuming the baby was also going to be on her lap. She was carrying on a lot for only one ticket.

Totally missed this detail. Man, what a cheapskate.

well you are allowed a carry on and a personal item......maybe that milk and breast pump should have gone INSIDE your carry on.
except that the airlines state that all these are permitted for nursing mothers. If it's the airlines rules that they are all allowed and the mother plans it that way, how is she supposed to react when the gate agent (LA is the worst) tells her otherwise.

What good is a checked breastr pump?

The policy may not be clear but their gate agents better be bright enough to understand it.

For use in Chicago

Pumps are delicate and expensive. She didn't want the bag agents tossing it around with the rest of the luggage I assume.
