Hindsight or not, it's still a fact. And a ban could prevent future Duncans from entering the country.

I get your point about it being global, but what's the down side to putting a ban on travel from west Africa? Even if it prevents one case of Ebola on US soil I'd consider it a success.

Don't airlines have flight manifests for every commercial flight that comes into the US, regardless of where the passengers originated?

Wouldn't international flyers have to pass through Customs at the US airport when they arrive and produce a passport?

Can we temporarily restrict issuing travel visas to citizens of those countries?

It's frustrating when people shrug their shoulders and say that there's no way to restrict travelers from the Ebola Belt in Africa from coming to America. Our country's response has been to use questionnaires and ineffective temperature screening.

Why even try if it's not going to be 100% effective (shrug)?

It would do something. It's not a cure all, but should have been and should be a restriction as part of the overall response

Temporarily, yes.

so fine, America bans people with west african passports from coming to america

So people from west africa can still travel everywhere else, correct?

they can still come in contact with other people, correct?

Kill everyone and destroy everything that has come in contact with this disease in the states, burn their bodies, bury the ashes, and close the borders. Otherwise we're all gonna die.

That restriction would save lives period. It does not eliminate the threat, but it's a basic step in the right direction. The US government is taking some wait and see attitude for some reason.

People will lie to get here, but why not make it harder for them to accomplish that goal? It reeks of incompetence.

Well if we had a travel ban then that would neutralize the effectiveness of lying to get here, no?

Nothing is perfect.

I think there should be a quarantine at the bare minimum if yo have a stamped passport from an affected area.

Also enacting a travel ban does provide a secondary front and another set of screeners to catch a probable case in another countries borders

But nothing is perfect but in my world it's better to do something rather than nothing.

Yes exactly. There is absolutely zero downside to doing so. And even if that doesn't work, it's not like we're wasting resources and energy by saying hey you can't fly into America from these regions anymore.

a travel ban NOW will not prevent the 2 nurses from having contracted it

i think we can all agree on that
am I missing something? what is to prevent the same thing from happening again?

What is the harm in preventing people from ebola stricken countries from entering the country?

I don't know what to tell you - there are thousands of infected people in those 4 countries and only a handful in the rest of the world.

I didn't say it was perfect. It is risk management/mitigation.

Two healthcare workers get sick from one ebola case in which the patient died.....

That's a pretty crappy outcome for a developed country.
