Seriously, frick that Duncan guy. I don't want to hear some sob story of how he caught it trying to help se pregnant girl. He knowingly and greedily brought that shot here, and now we're dealing with the consequences

a travel ban will literally do nothing to prevent further outbreaks in the US
so, the two nurses in Dallas would still have gotten infected if people from ebola-stricken areas were prohibited from traveling into the US????

You're typically an intelligent poster around here, but on this topic you are as wrong as wrong gets.

Until the outbreak is under control? Certainly. I have zero problems with that.

The issue would be additional screening to catch non-West Africans traveling back from there - international relief efforts, etc. But that should be a much smaller, more manageable number.

I'm not saying it's perfect - perfect is the enemy of the good. What wasn't good (and has obviously bitten us) was just leaving everything open - essentially unlimited, unscreened entry from wherever.

again captain hindsight over here

a travel ban NOW will not prevent the 2 nurses from having contracted it

i think we can all agree on that

You have a better chance of contracting Ebola than this scenario

It will prevent new infections coming in from West Africa, though, right?

I mean, had a travel ban been in place, Duncan would have been turned away and wouldn't have had the opportunity to infect now 2 American citizens, correct?

Wrong...he didn't fly in from Africa, he's flew in from Brussels.

You can't lie your way out of a passport stamp.

I would've already stopped all travel from Africa to here. Obama, like usual, is going to wait until it's too late.

I agree with that, but until this problem is under control, we should temporarily restrict air travel.

Pilot - we're talking about crisis management. OBVIOUSLY it's not a magic pill to make the 2 infected nurses better.

It's to prevent ADDITIONAL lying Duncans from getting in and ending up infecting nurses in a hospital in Boston, or Hartford or Portland.

Am I getting through to you at all?

Yet in Duncan's case, his lie would've been irrelevant had travel restrictions been in place. They asked him "Have you been in contact with anyone with Ebola?" "Nope." "Okay, welcome to America."

If the rule is noone currently residing in or that has been to Liberia within the last X Days can enter the country, Duncan could've said whatever he wanted to and still not ended up in a Dallas hospital.

So if Unduku from Liberia thats been living in China for the last 10 years can't come to the US for a few months for vacation in order to prevent the possible spread and outbreak of a deadly disease, then so be it.

I understand the intent of restricting air travel

I just don't think it would do anything to prevent further infections in the US, UNLESS, the entire world agrees to it
