Mildew stains? It is NOLA. Freaking 24/7/365 humidity will blow that stuff up. Get a pressure washer on it at least every year.

So 11 year old homes shouldn't need maintenance or upkeep?
Here's the mindset:
"Free homes, free maintenance"

IIRC they used a bunch of new to market materials that were supposed to be more efficient and cheaper. This is one of many risk in doing that.

frick you.
Trashy people are hard on housing. Has nothing to do with race.
I take great care of my house and so do my black neighbors. So do the white ones, and the asians. It's a working class neighborhood. People who worked for they have are more inclined to take care of it.
Welfare trash or those suffering from entitlement syndrome generally will not feel the same. Again, these people do not get to represent the whole because of their skin color.

What about what I said was racist?
If these homes wouldnt be in the 8th ward, all you posters here would be pushed at the builders. Porches falling off/apart, plumbing not working, etc are not normal issues on 10nyr old homes. And many of the issues have been since very early on.
Not you, bit other posters saying shite like "well you need general maintenance.".etc etc..assuming because of the location, the homeowners dont take care of their residence.
You know exactly what I'm saying, you know exactly what's employed, you know exactly where it comes from.
In fairness you you, I replied you you earlier, but the others were way worse in their implications
Be honest, you see what I'm saying. I'm racist myself in many ways...no big deal..everyone is in some way

The homes were not free.
The owners bought the homes but the prices were lower than market.
One quote in the OP says an owner paid "nearly $200,000" for his home.
I seriously doubt he actually paid the $200k
quote:
Returning residents pay Make It Right what they're able -- usually about $75,000 -- and Make It Right loans them the rest (the cost of a single is in the $150,000 range; a double about $200,000). The payback policy varies. For some, the loan is free, if the recipient agrees to live in the house for five to 20 years.

I actually did the floors for the 1st one built. It was a called the Global Green House and I assure you there was nothing cheap about it. The contractor was Landis, a very well respected conttactor.

what was your objective in posting this story?
It's a story about New Orleans on the anniversarry of Katrina. Knew there would be interests in it.
I don't have to have an agenda to know how this board operates.
And I'm not picking a side either way.
