Brace yourselves. Veteran's Day hater coming in...

I myself, am a proud "veteran". I served in, and have been, deployed to numerous conflict zones throughout the world while in the US Army.
Additionally, I don't know how to react or respond when people say 'Happy Veteran's Day, Thank you for your service!" because "You're welcome" sounds trite...
Moreover, I've always held the belief is (and this is where I'm going to lose many of you) is that you're not a "veteran" until you're honorably discharged and no longer receiving a government paycheck. Also, not to be arguing semantically, but if you've never been deployed (and garrison in Korea is not "deployed") and while it makes me respect you for raising your right hand to be one of the <4% of the population to ever serve, I save "veteran" for a select group.
You have to hang up your boots if you want that coveted AAA discount or maybe even the free cheesy bread from Domino's...
Bring the pain.

I went to an army nave game once and I guest lectured at Westpoint for a couple of classes.

All you did was brag you were a veteran, didn't really see much of a complaint or anything of substance, that most don't already agree with...

I thought it would be implied... I don't enjoy people praising active duty soliders/airmen/marines/sailors/coast guardsmen on veteran's day.
That's not what today was for.
(and yes, I'm aware of the history of how Veteran's Day started)

Isn't the government the largest employer of retired military personnel?

The head of the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs was on the TV this morning giving himself props for being veterans.
I looked at his bio and the dude got into the Georgia National Guard during vietnam. Never left the state. Obviously, there's a lot of disparity amongst the different veterans but I sure do appreciate what my grand pappy did in WW2.

So medical discharges aren't Vets, how bout those of us who did get our honorable but receive disability due to our injuries from serving and from the sandbox. Are we veterans yet. Whatever, man. Don't over think it. We appreciate your service to our country. We appreciate everyone who served or who is still serving, combat veteran or non-deployed but still trained and ready to fight. It's a day to recognize that service and to say thanks. You should not feel bad for simply saying, "your welcome", or "okay", or "no, thank you", or whatever floats your boat.

You made the statement saying until you longer receive a government check. You were given several scenarios in which a person could still receive a government check.

Not a vet if you didn't deploy? how about not a vet unless you were infantry, armor, artillery, or cavalry? wait, then special ops could claim that they are the only true veterans, too.
Or how about not being a judgmental POS and don't make your military past such a big part of how you define yourself now.

Been a member since August of 08 and 56 posts... You, sir, are not a veteran.
If you truly are, I apologize for my smartass remark... but as a regular stiff who works his arse off in this country to just get by, I honor any man or woman who has served this great nation, because they never knew what shite-storm waited just around the corner when they signed up.
