BR Traffic: Terrace Ave. Exit Project

SIAP, but didn't see a recent thread. Groundbreaking apparently took place on a project to add an exit on I-110 South which is supposed to help relieve the Washington St. exit bottleneck. Key points, per yesterday's article in The Advocate:
> $8.8m project
> New lefthand exit off of I-110 South. Construction of the exit ramp will begin on I-110 over Myrtle Avenue. It will be extended over Julia Street to intersect with Terrace Avenue.
> "Sets the stage for a new Mississippi River crossing and a regional traffic solution." - Garret Graves
> Exit being financed by federal dollars the state won in a national competition
> Start Aug 2018; End Jul 2019
> Intent is that only motorists leaving the bridge will continue to use Washington St. exit; those traveling along I-110 South will exit at the new Terrace Ave. exit instead of having to cross multiple lanes of traffic to exit at Washington St.
> No lane closings are planned during the work
> In related news, public hearings on the I-10 widening project between the bridge and Essen Ln. and reportedly to be paid for with federal funds are to take place Aug. 28 through Aug. 30

ETA: all for the 3 people that use the Washington Street exit....per week

Curious to the correlation

The correlation is that Mr. Graves has further political ambition so spouting some good sounding bullshite is in his job description.

Better solution. Blow up the Washington street exit and make the lane continue on I-10

2016 traffic counts for Washington Ave show 1300-2300, and that includes people just passing through the neighborhood. If DOTD wanted to waste money, I'd gladly take some.

Isn’t that in the works? I thought the construction plans they announced a few months ago included closing the existing Washington St exit and making a longer Dalrymple exit with a turn-around for traffic wanting to go to Washington St.

Just playing Devil’s Advocate: is it possible I-110 South travelers (those traveling from North BR) would be demographically more likely to use the Wash St exit but for the fact they can’t get over in time?

Can’t get over in time? Hell the either cut others off or just come to a stop to get on the exit ramp. This is part of the trouble that causes the bottleneck.

What you’ve described hits the nail on the head even more than where I was going. Couldn’t this be good then?
Even one car holding up traffic to get over to Wash St Exit can have ripple effects all the way to the bridge.

Also, a transparent government would share the feasibility study. I’ve already seen conflicting reports on the total cost.

Anyone with a brain knows that this will not solve the I 10 Miss River Bridge eastbound late afternoon traffic problem.

These people are either on Crack Cocaine or stupid (or both) if they think that this will substantially help the problem of ONE frickING THROUGH LANE on I frickING TEN EASTBOUND!!!

It almost seems like they won some competition so had to come up with a project. Hell, if it’s free money and can only be used for this purpose, I don’t see an issue even if it’s only marginally helpful. If the funds could be used for anything, they should have rolled it into some other project.

I see this as the answer to closing the Washington street exit. Coming from the bridge take the highland exit, coming from i110 take the new exit.
This just gives them more ammo to be able to close the Washington street exit and extend that lane to the split.
Not saying it will happen or that it won’t take another million dollar feasibility study to complete it but I see progress.

You'll see no improvement whatsoever with this addition. The problem is merging I10 into I110. Only a wider interstate can solve this problem.
That’s coming starting next year.
Baton Rouge will be orange barrel city for about half a decade.
