Before anyone says travel board, I posted this there earlier in the week and not much response. Will try here once again.
Have to drive there in a few weeks and wondering what is the best, most scenic route. Never driven out that way and according to the map, there's multiple ways to go along different interstates. Will take my time and may stop and do some sight seeing so any suggestions along the way are appreciated. Someone told me on travel board about the goats on the roof store. We may stop by if open.

I - 40 from TN into N.C. which is quick way to Asheville has lane closures at Mile Marker 7.

It can back up quick so look at either I-81 to I-26 to go to Asheville or be prepared to sit in traffic for some extra time.

If you're not in a rush and don't get car sick then jump off the interstate in Athens TN and take the Cherohala Skyway through Robbinsville, Bryson City, Cherokee, Maggie Valley and the Ashvelle.

Fill up with gas in Tellico Plains.

A little out the way but if you appreciate good music make a detour to Muscle Shoals and visit the sound studio. Everyone relevant from the 60’s til even today has recorded there.

Chattanooga and Knoxville are good stops if you go up I 59 to i40

I have made that drive many times (I lived in Asheville, but most of the family was in Louisiana). There's not much to do or see along the interstates, but go through Chattanooga and exit a few miles north on US Highway 64 at Cleveland going east. Great scenic route along the Ocoee River.

This will take somewhat longer than driving through Knoxville, but you'll enjoy the scenery.

If you have the time I-26 from Johnson City to Asheville is the best drive through the mountains this side of Maryland.

South of Knoxville: Benton Bacon near Madisonville TN, classic ham and bacon done in the Virginia piedmont style. Bacon ends make a great alternative Red Beans and Rice version.

Over near Sweetwater TN, Sweetwater Valley cheeses made at the dairy and especially their aged cheeses (esp. the aged cheddars).

Asheville BBBarnes nursery: to see the plants that work in the high country near Asheville that don't flouish in Louisiana.

Take a segment of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Cross country southeast of Asheville: exfoliating granite domes near Lake Lure, and then to Highlands.

The interstates are for getting there fast and unpleasantly. I-40 through the mountains has had another landslide. Traffic inches along and its' not scenic.
